SALARY: $132,874.56 - $158,184.00 Per Year

Come grow with us!POSITION OVERVIEW:As a Senior Project Engineer in the Engineering Design and Construction division with the City of Maple Ridge, you will be responsible for a portfolio of projects, which may include roads and bridges; facilities; and water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater utilities. Leveraging your project management skillset along with subject matter expertise in municipal design and construction, you will deliver projects that meet scope, schedule, and budget requirements.Your role involves participating in short and long-term planning, making decisions on processes and procedures, and developing standards and guidelines.Additionally, you will peer review the work of colleagues, provide guidance to more junior staff, and potentially supervise engineers or technical staff.Work assignments are received from the Manager or self-initiated and are performed with considerable independence of action and judgment, in accordance with established policies. The Manager evaluates your work performance based on the achievement of division and departmental goals and mutually agreed-upon performance indicators.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor of Applied Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline with 6-8 years recent related experience following professional registration; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Membership or eligibility for immediate membership as a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
  • Completion of project management training or a PMP designation is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in municipal government and /or in the civil constructions industry is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to work under broad direction and use significant independent judgment to problem solve when more than one option is possible.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple deadlines.
  • Skill in managing scope to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Skill in managing project schedules, focusing on identification and timely completion of all critical path tasks.
  • Skill in managing project budgets to ensure spending is within budget and aligns correctly with the completion of the project scope.
  • Skill in proactively identifying risks and developing appropriate risk responses.
  • Skill in managing project teams as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop RFPs for engineering services, evaluate proposals and provide recommendations to award.
  • Ability to develop Requests for Qualifications, evaluate submissions, and manage Invitations to Tender for supply and construction.
  • Knowledge of MMCD and demonstrated ability with managing contracts.
  • Sound technical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and their application in the relevant discipline.
  • Ability to act as a resource to staff and provide sound and practical guidance.
  • Ability to explain difficult concepts and persuade others to adopt a point of view or way of doing things.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain respectful working relationships under circumstances that are considerably complex.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented work environment and deal effectively with disagreements and prevent the escalation of conflict.
  • Skill in dealing openly, tactfully and sensitively with the public and external organizations.
  • Ability to supervise, coach and guide others while enhancing individual and team effectiveness.
  • Ability to mentor and foster the development of junior engineers and technical staff as required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including emails, reports and presentations.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and Project.
