Job Purpose
The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreation programs at SFN. These programs are intended to increase community members' physical and mental health, as well as provide structured opportunities for socialization. The Recreation Coordinator contributes to the betterment and well-being of SFN members through these programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Recreation Program Delivery and Administration
Develops, coordinates, and implements recreational, cultural, and community programs for all age groups.
Designs, plans, and organizes recreational programs, including spring and summer day camps, after school programs (Monday-Thursday) and community activities that promote physical health, well-being, and social in interaction.
Schedules and oversees regular activities such as fitness classes, youth programs, and assists with community events.
Researches new trends and opportunities in recreation to expand program offerings.
Works closely with the Youth Support Coordinator to ensure alignment and collaboration in youth and community programming.
Is creative in designing programs; ensuring they are community based and age appropriate
Ensures all necessary supplies are on hand for required programming and events while staying within the programing budget
Monitors and manages expenditures and budgets for program delivery as provided by the manager
Maintains accurate statistics of program attendance in relation to program reporting
Provides monthly reporting and status updates on programs to the manager
Refers applicants requiring other health, social or training services to appropriate agencies
Utilizes program documentation regarding applicants and participants, files the forms accordingly
Surveys attendees and community members for programs which they would find effective and try to incorporate their feedback whenever possible
Participates in team meetings to collaborate on grants and funding opportunities
Collaborates with department team members in creating a monthly program calendar
Ensures that all program calendars completed by the third week of each month for the following months activities
Ensures calendar coincides with other existing SFN Programs and Community events
Liaises with other Saulteau First Nations departments for collaboration opportunities
Promotes safe practices in all recreation and event activities.
Monitors facilities and programs for hazards or potential risks and reports concerns promptly.
Follows emergency and first-aid protocols as required.
Evokes learnings through tradition and culture where possible
Participates in planning SFN golf tournaments
Other Related Duties
Participates in SFN sponsored community events
Participates in coaching and staff meetings
Participates in training and development opportunities as approved by the Manager
Performs any other duty relevant to the primary functions of the position
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum Highschool Education, preference given to those with post-secondary education or certifications
Minimum of 1 years' experience in Recreational, Child or Youth Programming
Certification and/or training in Fitness and Physical Health is considered an asset
Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Programs to build programming advertisements and complete program reporting
Knowledge and experience in culturally appropriate programs and program delivery
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Able to lift, move and transfer 30 lbs.
Ability to solve problems, make effective decisions, resolve conflict and manage time effectively
Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
Valid BC Driver's License and the ability to pass a Criminal Records Check
Food Safe Certification
Work Conditions
Travel within SFN community and surrounding community
Office work is conducted during the office hours of Monday through Thursday 8am to 4:30 pm; but programming hours typically are during evenings and weekends
All overtime must be approved by manager
Wage range $27.28 - $31.37
