The Opportunity
The City of Selkirk is currently in search of a Program Attendant to join our team. This position under the direction of the Program Coordinator, will provide assistance in the delivery and supervision of recreational programing, facility upkeep and front-line customer service.
Job Duties
1. Customer Service
• Welcome participants to program.
• Answer participant inquiries.
• Assist with customer complaints and provide appropriate solutions in a timely manner.
• Act as an ambassador for the City of Selkirk.
2. Administrative
• Implement and enforce all rules, safety procedures, and policies of the City of Selkirk Programs.
• Complete equipment agreement forms, tracking documents and related administrative tasks.
• Assist in writing an evaluation report and final inventory at the end of the program.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy in all matters involving the program and/or service.
• Responsible for the registration of program participants.
• Responsible for handling cash float and issuing receipts.
• Manage end of day cash reconciliation (cash/debit/credit) when required.
• Communicate with patrons regarding closures and changes to program and other program information.
3. Recreation Programs
Kin Centre
• Ensure that the Kin Centre and Sport Court, Recreation equipment and supplies used for the Recreation Library are maintained in good condition and properly stored.
• Responsible for the opening and closing of the Kin Centre, ensure that the facility is properly secured at the end of shift.
Walk Jog Program
• Assist with the planning and delivery of the Walk and Jog program.
• Ensure all supplies are in place as necessary.
• Ensure the facility is open and the space is prepared for participant arrival.
• Ensure that the facility, equipment and supplies used for programs are maintained in good condition and properly stored.
• Monitor and supervise participants.
• Complete payment reconciliation at the end of each shift.
Skate Program
• Monitor and supervise participants.
• Collect payment and participant information.
• Ensure proper equipment is worn by participants for the program.
• Ensure that the facility, equipment and supplies used for programs are maintained in good condition and properly stored.
• Complete payment reconciliation at the end of each shift.
Program Leader
• Assist with the planning and delivery of recreational, athletic, fitness and sports activities programs.
• Prepare materials, program plans and equipment/materials for programming.
• Facilitate, participate, instruct and demonstrate during programs.
• Create and execute program plans.
• Establish a positive, respectful and inclusive program environment while developing good rapport with program participants.
• Oversee the safety, supervision, wellbeing and care of all program participants at all times. This includes recording the ongoing attendance of individuals.
• Provide feedback and suggestions for improvements and modifications to program delivery.
• Enforce safety rules and regulations.
• Assist with coordination of special events.
• Schedule activities, keep logs, maintain records and prepare reports.
• May assist in training and supervising staff or volunteers.
• May maintain and repair sports equipment.
• Assist other programs as needed.
• Advise Program Coordinator of damaged and/or missing recreation equipment.
• Ensure participant safety/supervision.
• Responsible for the sanitization and cleaning of high touch surface areas in all facilities.
4. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements shall include:
• Current Grade 12 student or High School Diploma required
• Preference given to those with some post secondary education, with preference in Recreation, Education or a related field
• Posse ss skills in recreational programs, i.e. environmental, crafts, group recreation, special activities, etc.
• Clear Current Child Abuse Registry Check
• Clear Current Criminal Record Check
• Emergency (Basic) First-Aid & CPR-C
• Strong people skills; friendly, cooperative, energetic, responsible.
• Effective customer service and teamwork skills.
• Ability to communicate respectfully; with tact and diplomacy. This includes the ability to understand and deliver written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to attend work regularly, punctually and work a variety of hours, including evening, weekends and statutory holidays (Canada Day, etc.)
• Experience handling floats, balancing and preparing and reconciling cash deposits.
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at once.
• Computer and administrative skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization and external contacts.
• Competency in safe work practices, knowledge and understanding of occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of temperatures and weather conditions.
• Ability to work weekend and evening shifts
• Must be physically able to perform all the laboring aspects or other duties associated with the position
Comments
This is a Casual Non-Union position ranging from May to August 2025, working up to 40 hours a week based on a flexible schedule. This position will involve evening and weekend shifts on occasion. This position will be required to work on statutory holidays (Canada Day, Labour Day, etc.). This position is excluded from the Collective Agreement and is open to all applicants.
This position may be grant funded by the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF). Priority may be given to those that meet the following grant eligibility:
• Must be 18 or older.
• Proof of Red River Metis Citizenship (MMF Citizenship). Please indicate your Metis citizenship in your application.
• Students must have attended school full-time during the current academic year and be returning to school on a full-time basis in the upcoming academic year (part-time & distance education students are not eligible)
• Student eligibility must be verified and confirmed by MET prior to starting employment.
