POSITION SCOPE:
The Community Skills Development Coordinator's role is to support the community in building employment and business skills through administration of programs and services which contribute to an increased quality of life for the membership of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek. The Community Skills Development Coordinator will assist in administering policy, research and programs in the areas of special projects and initiatives, community business development and growth, providing training and workshop seminars, and other research relating to skills development matters.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Mandatory Requirements
Bachelor's degree in economics, Business or Public Administration, or commerce OR a diploma in economics, Business or Public Administration or Commerce OR combination of relevant education and a minimum five (5) years of work experience in either: economic development role, business or public development role, or project management role
Basic knowledge and understanding of financial statements, budgeting processes, project management as well as community and partner communication and networking capabilities
Additional Requirements
Proficient with Microsoft office suite and project management software
Ability to successfully complete application forms and reporting forms
Ability to analyze problems and data to make sound conclusions and recommendations
Ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms to staff and clients
Ability to develop and interpret complex rules and contract language
Ability to evaluate projects, develop measurable goals and objectives
Ability to maintain poise and use good judgment
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work
Knowledge of First Nations decision-making processes
Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions
Excellent listening skills, initiative, and attention to details
Must be able to obtain and hold the following certifications during the course of employment: First Aid and CPR Certification & WHIMIS
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning and Development
Deliver all aspects of the Community Skills program, including work plans, special projects, sourcing and use of funds, and ensuring signing of contracts within policy and procedure parameters
Connect Debendaagziwaad with business opportunities and assist with developing strategies to attract employment pathways
Conduct demographic and employment assessments of Atikameksheng and gather market research for use by potential business investors or local entrepreneurs
Analyze and interpret statistical information while simultaneously projecting and thinking towards what the future potential of the information for Atikameksheng Anishnawbek
Coordination and Implementation
Provide resources for business counseling and entrepreneurship assistance services to membership
Prepares community flyers, newsletters and contributes to the department annual report
Conducts annual survey of businesses in the community, and maintains business directory
Communication
Maintain/develop promotional material for key community skills and employment development opportunities
Develop targeted promotional campaigns for selected opportunity sectors
Respond to enquiries from community members, the business community, and general public concerning development opportunities
Interacts with Community and Resource Development Department staff to assist in providing development related training and workshops, feasibility studies, and reports as needed
Administrative
Providing ongoing updates to the Community Skills Development Manager on project progress
Provide quarterly reports to the Community Skills Development Manager on the progress of any development initiatives
Prepares written documents including reports and evaluations as specified by project objectives and activities
