We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Data Scientist or Statistician Co-Op with an applied statistics background who will become part of the SDV Super Cruise analytics team. The team is focused on providing analytical insights about Super Cruise usage to several internal partners across GM. It is a highly collaborative, driven, and bold organization that embraces innovation and challenges! This position requires extensive knowledge of applied statistics, specifically, create and identify meaningful actionable statistics based on business needs; ensure applied statistical analyses are unbiased, accurate and precise; and identify problems, solutions, and opportunities from data analyses. Typical work includes collaborating with data engineers and other data scientists on the team within the Scaled Agile (SAFe) framework to complete analytical assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms

Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns

Undertake preprocessing of structured and unstructured data

Monitor and sustain model effectiveness

Combine models through ensemble modeling

Present complex information using data visualization techniques

Propose solutions and strategies to business challenges that drive business impact

Requirements Qualifications:

Pursuit of a Bachelor\'s (3rd and 4th year students) or Master\'s (Preferred) degree in one of the following areas: Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science

Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week in Canada, and for 8-12 month term (2-3 consecutive semesters) starting January 2024

Strong expertise with the following statistical methods: time series analysis, categorical data analysis, multivariate analysis, and clustering

Expertise visually charting and graphing data to covey a story

Experience creating and identifying meaningful actionable statistics based on business needs

Experience with machine learning (supervised or unsupervised), statistical modeling, and text mining to meet analytical objectives

Proficient with one, or more programing tools and environments (ex. Python, R, SQL, DataBricks, AZURE, PowerBI)

Analyze large complex structured and unstructured datasets

Able to communicate an unbiased story using analytical insight to influence decision making

Ability to cultivate an open and inclusive culture that supports collaboration with data engineers to build data and model pipelines

Experience with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

Work in a fast-paced agile environment to develop and deliver advanced analytics solutions

Ability to be strategic and tactical with strong problem-solving abilities

A self-starter and highly comfortable dealing with ambiguity

Continuous learning mindset - willingness to learn new skills and methods as needed

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

Software Telemetry data

Understanding of major automotive vehicle systems such as Advanced Driver-Assistance (ADAS), Motion Control, Automotive Network, and Powertrain

Experience working with distributed computing tools (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc) and Machine Learning pipelines (Spark, DASK, Argo, etc)

Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certification

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable provincial laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, or Nova Scotia.

The salary range for this role is $4,100-$4,700 per month. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
