We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented young scientist, enrolled in an academic institution, to participate in our Groundwater Monitoring Program of Environmental Services. This student will have the opportunity to work under the supervision of a groundwater professional to conduct a number of tasks related to groundwater monitoring, including data processing and quality verification, geochemical characterization, environmental site performance evaluation, and more. This will be a great opportunity for the student to practically learn techniques applied for example to meet regulatory requirements with respect to compliance monitoring and develop skills for an attractive professional career.

What you will be doing:
  • Assist in processing, analyzing, and managing groundwater monitoring data.
  • Participate in physical and geochemical characterization of groundwater.
  • Work with a groundwater professional to evaluate the environmental performance of tens of monitoring sites within the larger Chalk River Laboratories (CRL) site of CNL.
  • Assist in setting up numeric criteria in a database management system in order to quickly identify potentially anomalous data trends.
  • Participate in a few groundwater monitoring activities in the field if needed.
What we are looking for:
  • Interpersonal or technical skills, knowledge or abilities required.
  • Have good general knowledge of environmental sciences or geoscience, with knowledge of groundwater monitoring, hydrogeology, and hydro(geo)chemistry considered an asset.
  • Be proficient in the use of various database systems including Microsoft Excel.
  • Have effective communication skills, both written and oral, and be comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Be highly motivated to learn new skills, including in a few possible field activities.

Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.
