About Us
SLS Centre is a leading-edge sport and recreational facility encompassing 325,000 square feet, including an aquatic centre, four arenas and a curling centre, fitness & climbing facilities, an indoor turf, track, and gymnasium, and is home to several third-party tenants. SLS Centre is a not-for-profit organization and a registered charity, governed by a volunteer board of directors.


About the Position

SLS Centre is looking for playful and outgoing Summer Camp Leaders to join our team, to deliver engaging summer camp programming to kids aged 3-12 years during July-August 2023. Camp Leaders put the FUN into camps, while also ensuring that safety is always a priority. Camp Leaders are inspiring, have a positive and enthusiastic attitude, a hands-on work ethic, and the ability to work effectively as a member of an awesome team.


Job Details:
Seasonal position (June 26-Sept 5, 2023); hourly; up to 40 hours/week
Reports to: Recreation Programs Supervisor & Camp Coordinators


Specific responsibilities:

  • Supervise children while at camp, ensuring the safety and well-being of participants at all times.
  • Engage in hands-on play with the participants, executing program lesson plans and scheduled activities.
  • Lead and engage the assigned group through activities and daily routines (including but not limited to lunch and before & after care).
  • Establish a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment while developing good rapport with all campers and their parents.
  • Provide excellence in customer service to all SLS Centre visitors.
  • Assist with program development initiatives to create fun, educational, and developmentally appropriate recreational experiences that promote healthy living and skill development.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of Camp Leaders to modify activities to ensure all campers are safely engaged.
  • Participate in all program activities with a high level of enthusiasm and energy.
  • Program set-up/take-down, basic cleaning and administrative tasks to support the successful operation of camps.
  • Other tasks/duties that may change upon request



Qualifications:
  • Must be available for the majority of the summer for 40 hours/week (Mon-Fri), from June 26-Sept 5, 2023.
  • Must be age 15+ (by June 26, 2023)
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification is required.
  • Previous experience working or volunteering with children and youth is an asset (i.e. camp programs, rec programs, or child-care); a demonstrated role model for young people
  • A demonstrated passion and interest in a relevant area: sport, fitness, physical literacy, art, STEM, etc
  • Must have a basic ability to swim and be comfortable in the pool for pool-based camp activities.
  • Comfortable and knowledgeable in working with children with behavioural/learning/cognitive challenges
  • Ability to be active and physically/mentally engaged for long periods of time.
  • Able to provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
