ENGLISH AND SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER

Part-time position (3 blocks or 0.8571 FTE)

Required Qualifications and Experience

A part-time position (3 blocks) teaching Grade 11 English and Grade 10 Social Studies is available. Sections include: Two (2) English First Peoples Literary Studies 11, One (1) Individuals and Societies 10. The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

Evidence of appropriate qualifications and experience in teaching English and Social Studies;

Solid understanding of the BC Ministry curriculum and learning standards within English and Social Studies;

The successful candidate would be willing to explore Indigenous literature and themes; encourage critical, creative, and reflective thought with regard to Canada\xe2\x80\x99s First Peoples; as well as collaborate with colleagues to build upon established units.

Ability to evaluate and report on student progress using Ministry of Education and IB MYP (Grade 10) assessment standards and practices;

A willingness to work collaboratively with the IB MYP Coordinator and other classroom teachers to authentically develop IB MYP units of study;

A commitment to and demonstrated experience using and integrating technology into the curriculum;

An ability to use a variety of teaching and learning strategies that can accommodate the learning needs of all types of learners;

A proven ability to develop a positive learning environment in the classroom and evidence of strong organization and classroom management skills;

Strong communication skills;

Hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate.
