Under the direction of the Manager Early Years Child Care Services, the Child Care Supervisor will have a strong theoretical background in practice of early childhood education and is able to "plan and deliver inclusive play based learning and care programs" for children of all ages. Supports the development, organization, implementation, coordination and evaluation of the child care program.
The Supervisor will motivate and nurture staff in achieving excellence required through College of Early Childhood Educators Standard of Practice and Code of Ethics. The Supervisor will maintain a child care license under Ministry of Education Child Care Early Years Act, with reference to the following documents Think Feel Act, How Does Learning Happen, Excerpts from ELECT document, and also with comply with Six Nations Elected Council Employment Policy, the Six Nations Council Health and Safety Guidelines, Six Nations Child Care Procedures and Guidelines and Parent Handbook.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
Must have an Early Childhood Educator Diploma from Community College
Must be registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators
Must have at least 2 years work experience within a supervisory role
Work experience with special needs children an asset
Thoroughly familiar with relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines, i.e., requirements as set out by the Child Care and Early Years Act
Must submit and ensure immunizations are up to date
Must submit a health assessment as according to Child Care and Early Years Act
Must pass a criminal records/vulnerable sector check
Must sign and submit an offence declaration every calendar year in which a vulnerable sector check is to be obtained
Must have a valid certificate in First Aid/CPR
Will have Food Handlers Certificate or willing to obtain

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
TECHNICAL:
Developing and maintaining program objectives and policies, in a high quality interactive program for families, children and our community.
Apply safety procedures and address emergencies according to established procedures
Prepare yearly work plans and budgets
Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports to relevant parties.
ADMINISTRATIVE:
Acting as a role model for staff, parents, students, volunteers, and visitors
Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community
Adhere to all legislation and regulations according to Child Care Early Years Act
Monitor and adhere to the program budget and expenditures
Approve program expenditures, within authority
Ensure employee profiles are kept up-to-date, including payroll forms
Approve and assist with fundraising/promotional activities
Complete performance and probationary reviews as required
Approve and assign student placements/volunteers
Participate in the hiring process and ensure orientation of new staff
Evaluate training needs and provide professional development and training opportunities
Computer knowledge and experience with data collection
On-going upgrading your skills through workshops, courses, training to advance professional development, as required in maintaining Continuous Professional Learning (CPL)
COMMUNICATIONS & LIAISON
Encourage the awareness to staff of changes in legislation, policies and practices
Act as a liaison with appropriate agencies, professional associations and other child care programs in the area as required
Promote Child Care Service program by advertising, making presentations and preparing pamphlets and newsletters
Ensure the designate in charge is familiar with administrative duties
Ensure that children requiring special needs is referred to the Six Nations Special Needs Consultant
Conduct parent interviews as required
Assist with planning and implementing parent/program meetings
Provide guidance to students, teachers, volunteers and other trainees on assignment with in child care services
Conduct staff meetings regularly
Maintaining a team approach to resolving issues, conflicts and problems that may arise, through this process of provide support service
OTHER RELATED DUTIES:
Any other related duties as assigned by the Manager Early Years Child Care Services which includes, but is not limited to, participation in the Six Nations Emergency Response Plan, Crisis Services and the Tragic Events Response Team.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work involves mental stress, balancing multiple projects in a workload with broad ranged focus, constant interaction with partners, community members, staff and relevant agencies
Subject to deadlines, interruptions, and evening or weekend work hours, and the ability to take direction, and work effectively and independently.
Expected travel inside and outside of the community with the possibility of using personal transportation.
Works in a climate controlled environment

Lifting and moving of furnishings, supplies and equipment daily

Good organizational skills and an ability to work independently and as a strong leader; with respectable interpersonal skills.
Ability to be patient, and have the ability to relate to children and adults with equal respect and dignity, regardless of life experiences, culture and values
IMPACT OF ERROR:
Errors in judgment and in the conduct of duties could lead to loss of credibility, poor public relations, confusion, serious impacts on clients and staff, and legal liability to self and to Six Nations Council.
