Job Description

The Housekeeper reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of Child Care Services. The housekeeper is responsible for the daily general cleaning and laundry of the child care facility; other related cleaning tasks that must be done periodically throughout the year.



The Housekeeper will comply with Early Years Act, Six Nations Council Employment Policy, Six Nations Council Health and Safety Guidelines, Six Nations Child Care Policy and Procedures, and Parent Handbook

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:




Will have a minimum two years experience in office or residential cleaning Must have good organizational skills Will have Food Handlers Certificate or willing to obtain Must possess a valid class G Ontario Driver's License Must pass a criminal/vulnerable sector check Must sign and submit an offence declaration every calendar year in which a vulnerable sector check to be obtained Must submit and ensure immunizations are up to date Must submit a health assessment as according to Child Care Early Years Act Must have a valid first aid/CPR certificate or willing to obtain Will have knowledge of and demonstrated practice of sanitation procedures

Other Preferred Qualifications


Excellent written and verbal communication skills Must have excellent organizational skills and an ability to work independently and as a strong leader, with respectable interpersonal skills Will be Native in preference to other applicants Knowledge of general health and safety procedures Ability to be patient, and have the ability to relate to children and adults with equal respect and dignity, regardless of life experience's, culture and values Knowledge of WHIMIS will be considered an asset

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:





Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of Child Care Services


PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:





The housekeeper is responsible for the daily general cleaning and laundry of the child care facility; other related cleaning tasks that must be done periodically throughout the year.



The Housekeeper will comply with Early Years Act, Six Nations Council Employment Policy, Six Nations Council Health and Safety Guidelines, Six Nations Child Care Policy and Procedures, and Parent Handbook




DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:




TECHNICAL:




Organizing and carrying out daily, weekly/monthly cleaning schedule Record and maintain a daily log Ensures compliance with all warranties incorporating a preventive maintenance schedule, for warranties to be maintained



ADMINISTRATION:




Dusting, sweeping of playrooms, halls, washrooms daily and mopping of floors as necessary Regular laundry of children's bedding and facecloths as scheduled Wiping of walls, interior door frames, interior windows on routine basis and as necessary Daily cleaning of all washrooms including sanitizing of toilet bowls, basins, counter space, mirrors, walls, footstools, doors and floors Daily wiping and sanitizing of waste receptacles Maintaining general cleanliness of chairs, under tables, toy shelves Maintaining general cleanliness of coat cupboards - vacuuming and wiping Maintenance and general cleaning of appliances used ie. Dryer/washer/vacuum Maintaining an inventory of supplies within the program budget Submit weekly timesheets/hand scan in/out Schedule work and maintain daily logs of work duties Assisting in promotion activities/fundraising Name tag is required/worn daily for security purposes-if lost/stolen a charge will be required



COMMUNICATIONS & LIAISON




Working cooperatively with all staff enhancing relationships with community resources and collaboration with existing programs and services on and off Six Nations of the Grand River communities Maintaining confidentiality and ensures compliance following Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (*PIPEDA) legislation regulations
Maintaining a team approach to resolving such issues, conflicts and problems that may arise in the process of providing support services Maintaining confidentiality as per Six Nations Council Employment Policy. Facilitating a workable relationship with children, parents, and staff Attending and participating in regular staff meetings as required/directed Attending training/workshops as required Providing guidance to student teachers/volunteers and other trainees Identifying to the Supervisor any necessary repairs Attend training/workshops as required



OTHER RELATED DUTIES:





Any other related duties as assigned by the Child Care Supervisors which includes, but is not limited to, participation in the Six Nations Emergency Response Plan, Pandemic Plan of Response and the Trauma Events Response Team (TERT).


WORKING CONDITIONS:




Patience and flexibility working around children in the work environment Working in a climate-controlled environment Some after hours participation for staff meetings, parent meetings, and other planned activities May involve some travel by car using own method of transportation Some lifting and moving of furnishings, supplies, and equipment daily Flexibility in work hours as required Gossip/hearsay/off duty conduct is not tolerable (see Six Nations Band Council Employment Policy) Encouraged to be limited of what is uploaded to Facebook/Twitter and other cyber sites, which may incriminate the Early Years and Child Care Services in a climate controlled environment while on site Cell phones are not to be used during work hours unless authorized by the Supervisor (emergency, trips) Name tag is required/worn daily-a charge will be added if lost/stolen (new name tag located at the Human Resources

Works within the policies and procedures established through service contract by the Six Nations Council and the funding agency (Ministry of Education) and within the legislation of the Early Years Act.
