Job Summary:
The Cook is responsible for the preparation of meals and snacks using methods such as roasting, grilling, steaming, boiling, and baking. All preparation of food will be in-line with accepted guidelines such as Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Food Guide and the individual dietary needs of the clients. The Cook is also responsible in ensuring the food preparation areas are properly sanitized and clean as per guidelines.
Employment Type: Casual (1 Position) Reports To: Residence Care Manager
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develops breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack menu plan in accordance with guidelines such as Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Food Guide and relevant dietary restrictions and needs of the clients
• Purchases and orders food items necessary for the preparation of meals
• Maintains and purchases equipment necessary for the preparation of meals
• Upkeeps an inventory of food or other related items
• Ensures that purchases are within approved budget limits
• Follows Food Safe practices in the storage and preparation of food
• Cleans and sanitizes food preparation areas according to sanitation requirements
• Prepares, cooks, and serves meals and snacks
• Reviews the meal preparation needs and strategy of the residence
• Other related duties as required by the Residence Care Manager

Education, Training and Experience:

• Minimum completion of Grade 10
• Graduation from a recognized program in institutional/residential cooking or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Food Safe Certificate
• Minimum of 1 year recent related experience
• Experience with a multicultural clientele and international cooking methods

Job Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to operate equipment related to preparing and cooking food
• Ability to carry out the duties of working in a kitchen setting
• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
• Ability to communicate in Chinese (any dialects) is considered an asset
• Excellent verbal and oral communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent time management and organization skills

Additional Information:

• Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) Required
• Able to work split shifts (morning and evening)
• Able to work weekdays or weekends as required
