Youth Worker (Right to Play) - One (1) Full-Time Permanent - Jan. 2026 start
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Will work within the FWFN Culture, Recreation and Youth Department and report to the Manager of Youth and Social Development.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
The Youth Worker will be responsible for assisting and monitoring nightly programs for youth that take place at FWFN's Youth Centre and within the community. The Youth Worker will help promote and make the Youth Centre friendly and attractive for youth. In partnership with RTP's Promoting Life-skills in Aboriginal Youth (PLAY) the Community Mentor position will be responsible for the planning and implementation of a program geared toward children and youth.
Job Duties:
Help youth from the community find information and support and network with other youth to get involved in the Youth Centre to feel part of the community and good about themselves.
Make sure the Youth Centre is a safe place where people treat each other with respect
Make sure the youth follow the rules of the Youth Centre
Manage the Youth Centre's day-to-day activities
Communicate with other Youth Centre staff and keep records of your activities
Monitor and evaluate the Youth Centre's programs
Request Youth's input continually to improve the Youth Centre's programs
Consult with the Manager of the Youth and Social Development and assist with Youth Centre programs
Supervise and lead activities for the youth
Monitor the use of equipment and facilities
Promote youth programs to ensure that the youth and youth organizations are aware of available activities
Complete daily reports concerning youth programs, number of participants and equipment/supplies
Work with FWFN summer student staff
Maintain higher standards of site cleanliness and order
Coordinate child and youth programming
Plan, lead and access core program
Support the planning and implementation of events and initiatives
Build partnerships and program awareness
Administration and program evaluation
Occasional travel (2-3 times a year)
Remote training
Plan, design and host events
Complete all monthly progress and finance reports in a timely fashion
Perform other related duties as required
REQUIREMENTS:
Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
Knowledge of completing reports and collecting date and stats
Ability to work well with others or alone under limited supervision in a wide variety of circumstances
Between the ages of 15-30 yrs. Youth under the age of 17 must have completed high school or equivalent
Applicants must be out of school and unemployed or under employed to fulfil the requirements of this funded program
Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office programs
Ability to work independently from time to time
Creative thinking and abilities to problem solve
Strong attention to detail
Pre-employment Police Records Check
Cooking experience with knowledge of the Canada Food Guide
Experience with working with Youth
Trained or willingness to be trained in how to effectively facilitate leadership and recreation programming for young people aged 7-20 years old
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
Able to lift 25 pounds.
Evening/weekend shifts.
