Youth Worker - Alternative Suspension (Full Time)

What qualifications are we looking for?
At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
\xc2\xb7 Post-secondary education in social work or other related fields (psychology, specialized education, sociology, criminology, etc.);
\xc2\xb7 Have 2 to 3 years of experience in youth intervention;
\xc2\xb7 Ability to work per a flexible schedule;
\xc2\xb7 Excellent administrative abilities;
\xc2\xb7 Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months);
\xc2\xb7 Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
\xc2\xb7 Three professional references required.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
The Youth Worker will:
\xc2\xb7Intervenes with secondary school students on an individual basis and in a group setting;
\xc2\xb7Supervises and supports students with assigned schoolwork ;
\xc2\xb7On an as needed basis and in the absence of the program Primary Youth Worker facilitates group workshops on topics related to the issues faced by program participants (anger management, responsibility, bully, etc.);
\xc2\xb7Communicates regularly with program Primary Youth Worker and program Supervisor on activities completed as well as participation and engagement of students present;
\xc2\xb7Maintains strong partnerships with schools that refer students to the program;
\xc2\xb7Communicates with parents on an as needed basis (e.g. when the student is absent);
\xc2\xb7Completes other general administrative duties;
\xc2\xb7Adheres to the YMCA Child and Vulnerable Adults Protection and Procedures and Code of Conduct;
\xc2\xb7Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy, and participates in Annual Campaign and/or other fundraising events;
\xc2\xb7Mustbe able and willing to travel between Crowfoot YMCA, Saddletowne YMCA and Shawnessy YMCA on a regular basis (There will also be occational travel to other locations in the city for YMCA meetings,trainings and community engagement work.);
\xc2\xb7Working hours may include occasional weekends and evenings.
