Overview



BrightStar Respite is seeking compassionate and dedicated Youth Support Workers to provide care and guidance for youth aged 13-18 who are under the care of the Ministry of Child & Family Services in Alberta. Our Youth Support Workers play a vital role in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for diverse youth, including those who are transgender or gender-fluid, neurodivergent, or experiencing various forms of trauma.

Key Responsibilities Direct Youth Support



Provide individualized support to youth aged 13-18 with diverse needs, including those who are transgender or gender-fluid Support youth with various neurodivergent conditions (ASD, FASD, ADHD, etc.) Assist youth who have experienced intergenerational trauma, PTSD, bullying, systemic racism, and social isolation Create a safe, inclusive environment that respects and affirms each youth's identity and needs Plan and facilitate engaging outdoor activities appropriate for youth development Accompany youth to medical appointments, therapy sessions, and school Ensure youth compliance with any regulations set by Alberta Judges or Probation Officers

Documentation and Reporting



Document all shift events accurately on ShiftCare and StoryPark platforms Complete critical incident reports within a timely manner Immediately notify on-call supervisors of any critical incidents Maintain thorough, accurate, and confidential records for all youth in care

Professional Collaboration



Attend monthly staff meetings to ensure consistent care approaches Participate in Incident review meetings every 6 weeks Attend service team meetings with partner agencies in the youth's circle of care (AHS, EPS, CFS, CSD providers) Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive support for each youth Plan and supervise family visits in accordance with case plans Support BrightStar Respite's commitment to reunifying Indigenous children with their families, culture, and communities

Professional Development



Complete and stay current with all required training Participate in ongoing education related to youth care, cultural competency, trauma-informed approaches, and neurodiversity Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in supporting diverse youth populations

Qualifications



Certificate or Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or related field (or equivalent experience) Experience working with at-risk youth and diverse populations Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices Understanding of neurodivergent conditions and appropriate support strategies Cultural competency, particularly regarding Indigenous perspectives and reconciliation Strong documentation and communication skills Valid driver's license and clean driving record Current First Aid and CPR certification Clear criminal record check and child intervention check

Pay: $21.58-$23.77 per hour
