Youth Settlement Worker (Summerside Office) Full-Time Term Position through March 31, 2024*

How You\xe2\x80\x99ll Spend Your Time As a Youth Settlement Worker (Summerside office) with our Youth Settlement Services team, your primary area of focus will be to provide information and guidance to newcomer immigrant students (Kindergarten to Grade 12) arriving in Canada. You will collaborate with internal and external partners to provide support and information for client\xe2\x80\x99s and their family groups, in relation to all aspects of their enrollment and education needs. Your secondary area of focus will be providing support and assistance to newcomer immigrant students (Grade 9 \xe2\x80\x93 Grade 12) across PEI, on all aspects related to job search, career planning and overall future readiness, with the goal of their successful integration into the local community & school system. This role collaborates across departments to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote IRSA\xe2\x80\x99s vision, mission and core values. Responsibilities:
  • Administers needs assessments for individual clients to assist in identifying ideal education goals and helps identify and navigate potential barriers.
  • Conducts school outreach and collaboration across the Province, for updated information and potential needs assessments.
  • Communicates with schools and families on matters related to the wellbeing and ongoing success of the students.
  • Assists the YSS team in the delivery, development and preparation of youth programs \xe2\x80\x93 including field trips, camps, overnight trips, & youth groups, etc.
  • Supervises groups of students and youths during activities, promoting a safe and caring environment in line with IRSA\xe2\x80\x99s vision, mission and goals.
  • Provides access to interpretation and document translation resources, as required by client needs & service scope.
  • Promotes the Future Readiness (FR) program amongst clients Grades 9 to 12, to support them in acquiring employment that meets their needs, via mentorship and advocacy, providing professional development with employment related skills and aids in the delivery of information sessions to help support the same.
  • Researches and develops education information and materials for presentations to schools, businesses, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with businesses and community organizations, as well as seeking valuable networking opportunities with potential service partners.
  • Ensures up to date case notes are completed on client files in a timely manner within IRSA\xe2\x80\x99s client management system (CMS)
  • Evaluates service program delivery and provides regular reporting for funding partners as directed
  • Monitors the ongoing education/employment/recreation plans to ensure clients are on target, and adjusts plans, if necessary, to meet client needs as they arise.
  • Acts as strong client advocate, refers clients/volunteers to internal and external support programs and services, including navigation of government systems, and community resources, as determined through needs assessments.
  • Provides support, referrals and information to empower clients to solve and cope with challenges arising from education/employment/recreational needs in Canada.
  • Liaises with community organizations to form partnerships for assisting newcomers with Education and community concerns.
  • Monitors and maintains an efficient record management system including daily updating of the YSS intranet database, data spreadsheets and project reports as needed
  • Is committed to ongoing process review and improvement to further the efficiency of the above listed duties.
What You Bring
  • You have a post-secondary degree or diploma in Education, Social Services or a related discipline, with a minimum of 1-year experience in role (or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience)
  • Previous experience working with children, youth and international students would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience in organizing and facilitating workshops or event planning would be considered an asset
  • Proven ability to identify and navigate service gaps and manage case loads with competing priorities
  • Demonstrates a high level of empathy, coupled with a strong working knowledge of the challenges and issues facing newcomer populations, networks and support organizations.
  • Demonstrates cultural competence and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • An effective communicator in the English language, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to deliver information in a format that is clear, concise, organized and appropriate for it\xe2\x80\x99s intended audience.
  • Proficient working with MS Office, various Social Media platforms, & Google Applications.
  • Capable of developing and delivering content using each of the above platforms.
  • Experience working with a Client Management System (CMS) would be considered an asset
  • Solid project management, presentation & public speaking skills would be considered an asset
  • Strong networking & relationship-building skills would be considered an asset
  • Ability to communicate in other languages would be considered an asset
  • Having a valid provincial driver license with access to reliable transportation would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working in non-profit organization and/or non-government organization would be considered an asset
