Position Overview:

We\'re looking for positive and energetic role models to help lead after-school and/ or weekend youth programs. As part of our City of Kitchener Youth Services team, you will work with your team lead and fellow leaders to deliver indoor recreational programming such as sports, art and crafts, and games and/ or leadership development and life skills programs for youth ages 10-17 at community centre in a fun and relaxed indoor environment.

Employment Dates: from September 15, 2023 to June 15, 2024.

Hours of Work: Hours of work vary, evenings and weekends, 3-24 hours per week

Training Dates: September 12-14, 6pm-9pm

Work is performed in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to mitigate risk to self and others.

Responsibilities:
  • Set-up and take down the program areas and ensure the safety and cleanliness of the centre and of the program area before, during and after use. You may be required to open and close a facility.
  • Ensure safe use, condition, and storage of equipment
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of program activities
  • Plan for equipment and program supply requirements
  • Lead and participate in various youth activities such as sports, arts and crafts, games, cooking, life skills etc.
  • Serve as a role model and work with team members to ensure all youth are engaged and included in activities and support youth in their efforts to try new activities, develop new skills
  • Monitor youth interactions and activities at all times, ensure the safety and enjoyment of participants through communication and adherence to program and facility rules, and address unsafe and unacceptable behavior
  • Assist youth participants to work together to resolve problems and conflicts
  • Assign daily tasks to staff team members
  • Completes required program paperwork (sign in/out/ memberships, accident/incident reports, damage reports, and safety checklists).
  • Provides first aid as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Minimum level of education - partial completion of secondary school education (or the equivalent).
  • Prior experience working or volunteering with youth in a group setting (minimum of 1 month).
  • Youth Leaders must be 18 years of age.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification by first day of employment.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Reference Check (issued as of August 15, 2023 for new leaders). Any related costs are the sole responsibility of the applicant.
  • Reliable transportation to work location.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
