Job Description

Girls Inc. is looking for a Program Coordinator who can contribute to organizational growth, community impact and gender equality through planning, leading and implementing in-school/after-school programs for girls ages 6-18.

The ideal candidate for this role would be an adaptable and proactive professional with expertise in holistic youth development, as well as direct program facilitation experience in engaging girls ages 6-18.

Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta has been operating in the region since 1979, originally as Big Sisters Society and as an affiliate of Girls Incorporated since 2004, deepening our impact every year. To address layers of needs and challenges unique to girls ages 6-18 in Wood Buffalo, we deliver life-changing programs that are innovative, intentional, research-based, preventative, holistic, context-specific, age-appropriate, barrier-free and transformational.

In 2021 alone, the organization was able to inspire 1,500 girls across the Wood Buffalo region from Conklin to Fort Chipewyan. Echoing our mandate, our programs encompass Healthy-Active Living (STRONG), Knowledge Enrichment (SMART) and Informed Life Skills (BOLD) facilitated in a pro-girls, safe environment. Aligning with our Strategic Priorities 2021-2025, we accelerated our outreaching efforts to remote communities from 15.1% in 2019 to 24.2% in 2021. Our staff and volunteers care deeply about the general well-being of girls locally and beyond, and we are proud to be the leading advocate for girls' and women's rights and opportunities.

General Duties:



Under supervision of Program Director, Program Coordinator is responsible for direct program planning and facilitation of in-/after-school programs (virtually and in-person). You will:

Plan, coordinate, lead, implement and evaluate programs targeting girls ages 6-18,in STRONG, SMART and BOLD programming. This includes but is not limited to developing lesson plans, coordinating with partners/schools, securing logistical requirements, facilitating in-person/virtual sessions, conducting surveys and analyzing outcomes. Facilitate girls' personal development process through educational-recreational experiences. Ensure timely, quality and impactful program implementation by working collaboratively with your colleagues and volunteers. Liaise with existing/new community partners by identifying areas of collaboration, organizing/participating in consultative meetings and maintaining relationships. Document and keep track of activity status, particularly registration and expected outcomes. Maintain attendance and session notes. Assist in monitoring program activities, indicators and outcomes for effective project management. Ensure general safety and confidentiality of participating girls. Convey messages around Girls' Inc. philosophy and positive community development. Ensure timely reporting of program activity status and child welfare concerns. Communicate directly with parents, guardians, Program Director and Executive Director regarding wellbeing of participants where needed. Share strong passion around inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold. Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

:

Minimum of 1-year direct group facilitation experience transferable to duties outlined above. Post secondary education will be considered as an asset preferably in the education field. Relevant experience or qualification will be considered. Demonstrated understanding of gender equality and gender-sensitive programming. Expertise and demonstrated experience in Indigenous-informed teaching methods and subject matters would be an exceptional asset. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrate professionalism and willingness to learn. Strong attention to detail in project and case management. Great problem solving skills with ability to multitask. Able to organize and manage time effectively while learning quickly. Self-starter with a team-oriented approach to meeting goals and objectives. Comfort with Microsoft Office, Google Suites, Zoom, Canva and social media. Background clearance from the RCMP and social services. Class 5 drivers licence with a clean abstract (to be provided during interview). Valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
