The Ooknakane Friendship Centre (OFC) invites applications for the purpose of Youth Mental Health Clinician, based in Penticton BC. This position will provide direct mental health and wellness support to Indigenous youth through culturally grounded, trauma-informed approach. The Clinician will deliver services aligned with the Twelve Core Functions of Counselling, incorporating both Indigenous knowledge systems and Western therapeutic practices through the Two-Eyed seeing process of helping and healing.
Responsibilities
1. Clinical and Support Services
Conduct screening, intake, and assessments for youth experiencing mental health or substance use challenges.
2. Cultural and Collaborative Practice
Work in partnership with Knowledge Keepers, Elders, and cultural practitioners to integrate traditional approaches to healing.
Apply the Two-Eyed Seeing framework to blend Indigenous and clinical knowledge for holistic care.
Participate in community-based programming that enhances youth connection to identity, language, and the land.
3. Case Management and Coordination
Provide ongoing case management, crisis intervention, and referral support.
Collaborate with schools, service providers, and community partners to ensure continuity of care.
Maintain accurate case files, assessments, and treatment notes in accordance with privacy legislation.
4. Program Development and Evaluation
Contribute to the development and delivery of youth mental wellness programs at OFC.
Assist with monitoring and evaluating program outcomes and preparing reports.
Participate in community engagement and capacity-building activities related to mental health and addictions.
Develop and implement individualized treatment, recovery, and aftercare plans.
Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed counselling to youth and families.
Facilitate one-on-one and group counselling sessions incorporating Indigenous and Western modalities.
Support youth wellness through land-based and culture-based healing initiatives.
Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counselling
Minimum of 2 years experience providing mental health or addictions services, preferably with Indigenous youth.
Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, land-based healing, and cultural safety practices.
Experience applying trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and strength-based approaches.
Familiarity with the Twelve Core Functions of Counselling and relevant mental health frameworks.
Skills and Attributes
Demonstrated ability to build trust and rapport with Indigenous youth and families.
Strong understanding of confidentiality, ethics, and professional boundaries.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Competent in Microsoft Office and client data systems.
Ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
Additional Requirements
Clear Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector).
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and reliable transportation.
Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends for youth or community events.
