About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Healthy Communities, the Youth Health Centre Coordinator (YHCC) is an active member of the Healthy Communities Public Health Team and works within the Public Health Standards and Protocols and a Health Promoting Schools Approach, guided by the Public Health, Health Promoting Schools Standards.

The YHCC provides leadership, informal assessment, service navigation, youth engagement, and support for youth associated with the assigned school facility and its immediate community. The YHCC champions youth health, and health equity and facilitates youth engagement as a component of health-promoting schools. The position works with youth and fosters cooperation and collaboration among school administrators, teachers, SchoolsPlus, guidance, student/youth support workers, primary health care, mental health and addictions, and other community partners to ensure youth have access to support, programs, and services within the school and community that promote health. The YHCC models and provides safe, equitable, and inclusive youth support and understands the diverse experiences of the school and the surrounding community.

Le coordonnateur ou la coordonnatrice de centre de sant\xc3\xa9 jeunesse offre un leadership, fait des \xc3\xa9valuations non officielles, aide \xc3\xa0 s\'y retrouver dans les services, favorise l\'engagement des jeunes et soutient les jeunes des \xc3\xa9coles qui lui sont affect\xc3\xa9es ainsi que pour la communaut\xc3\xa9 imm\xc3\xa9diate. Il/elle d\xc3\xa9fend la sant\xc3\xa9 des jeunes et l\'\xc3\xa9quit\xc3\xa9 en mati\xc3\xa8re de sant\xc3\xa9, ainsi que la participation des jeunes comme acteurs au sein des \xc3\xa9coles-sant\xc3\xa9.

Le coordonnateur ou la coordonnatrice de centre de sant\xc3\xa9 jeunesse intervient donc aupr\xc3\xa8s de jeunes et favorise la coop\xc3\xa9ration et la collaboration entre les administrateurs scolaires, les enseignants, \xc3\x89colesPlus, les services d\'orientation, les travailleurs qui viennent en aide aux jeunes et aux \xc3\xa9l\xc3\xa8ves, les services de sant\xc3\xa9 primaires, les services de sant\xc3\xa9 mentale et de traitement des d\xc3\xa9pendances, ainsi que d\'autres partenaires communautaires, afin que les jeunes aient acc\xc3\xa8s, dans les \xc3\xa9coles et la collectivit\xc3\xa9, \xc3\xa0 des soutiens, programmes et services de promotion de la sant\xc3\xa9. Le coordonnateur ou la coordonnatrice du Centre de sant\xc3\xa9 jeunesse offre aux jeunes un soutien s\xc3\xbbr, \xc3\xa9quitable et inclusif et comprend la diversit\xc3\xa9 d\'exp\xc3\xa9riences des jeunes aussi bien \xc3\xa0 l\'\xc3\xa9cole qu\'\xc3\xa0 l\'ext\xc3\xa9rieur.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

• Baccalaureate degree in a relevant health care discipline (registered nurse, occupational therapist, social work, nutritionist).
• Minimum of three years\' experience in a relevant field; directly working with youth required
• Registered/licensed with your regulated health care discipline, college or association is required (registered nurse, occupational therapist, social work, nutritionist).
• Must be bilingual in French and English
• Must have a valid driver\'s license and access to a reliable vehicle
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team both within the organization and in the community
• Ability to critically assess situations and navigate complex scenarios using sound decision-making and a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach in supporting youth.
• Demonstrated ability and experience in creating opportunities for meaningful youth engagement and fostering youth leadership.
• Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health, health equity, and the impact on health outcomes for youth, families, and communities.
• Experience in the application of public health principles and practices, partnership development, and community development
• Experience relevant to children and youth, health promotion strategies in school and community settings preferred

Coordinators work 70 hours biweekly for an approximate ten-month period, aligning with the school calendar year. Their salary is pro-rated to 0.83 FTE, paid over a twelve-month period, contributing to a period of leave over 8 weeks during a pre-determined summer break in July and August.
