The Youth Development Worker will provide direct care and support to children aged 0-18 with various needs. Collaboration with a team is essential, along with ensuring a safe and secure environment for the children.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direct care of our complex residents, including meal preparations, feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, and assisting with bowel and bladder care.
Facilitate and implement educational, recreational, and vocational programs for residents, including driving them to and from scheduled outings.
Support behaviour management for resident with complex care needs, including verbal de-escalation and physical intervention when necessary, such as performing blocks, releases, and quick movements to ensure safety.
Demonstrate confidence, physical stamina, and emotional resilience to support high-needs residents, including those with physically aggressive behaviours, on regular basis.
Perform ongoing housekeeping tasks, including, meal preparation, laundry, and light cleaning.
Provide individual and group support to residents both in the residence and in the community, by focusing behaviour management and helping residents reach their full potential.
Build relationships with residents, respond to their behaviour, build self-esteem, and negotiate focused goals to support their development.
Participate as a team member by promoting professionalism, resolving conflicts, acknowledging individual differences, and supporting team members and residents.
Maintain positive and effective communication with residents, co-workers, and management.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION:
Candidate should have at least a high school diploma or equivalent education.
Minimum of 2 years experience working with children with developmental disabilities and behaviour management.
Must possess excellent communication skills, patience, creativity, flexibility, compassion, and sensitivity towards individuals and have a passion working with children.
Current Emergency First Aid and CPR certification.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training preferred.
Valid Class 5 Drivers license and a clean Drivers abstract.
RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable and Intervention Record Check.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Position entails 30-48 hours per week.
Hourly wage for this position is between $20 - $23 based on experience.
Employees are entitled to health and dental benefits.
Travel within the region required.
Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, and lifting.
Smoke-free environment and undergoes regular health and safety inspections to ensure compliance.
Complete necessary documentation in accordance with our Policies and Procedures, as well as the requirements set forth by the Ministry of Community and Social Services requirements.
