Job Summary
Connexus is seeking an individual with the desire to make a difference in the lives of children & youth as well children and youth and/or their families. The successful candidate will work as part of a larger team & independently to provide groups and 1-1 services with children and youth, up to the age of 18.
Child and Youth Care Special Needs Worker
will receive referrals will be initiated by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). Services provided may include behavior management, life skills training and parenting. The children and youth in the program could present with the following: mental health concerns, behavioural concerns, or diagnosis of Autism, FASD and Mild Intellectual Disability.
Child and Youth Care Worker:
Provides services directly to children and youth, who have been removed or are at risk of being removed from their families; or children who have a mental health disorder or who are at risk of developing a mental health disorder. This program may also provide services to children and youth who have development disabilities. The service will provide short term, intensive and outcome-focused interventions/services that promote growth and improve family functioning. This program will focus on developing the personal, life, social and familial competencies in children and youth
Qualifications & Experience:
A Diploma in Child & Youth Care/Human Services or related field.
One-year recent related experience, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Courses and/or working knowledge of common childhood disorders (Autism, FASD, ADHD) and effective treatment methods an asset for work with child/youth clients or willing to work towards these professional development requirements.
Must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural differences, differences in socio-economic status and lifestyle diversity. Must be non-judgmental. Knowledge of relevant socio-historical events relevant to Indigenous culture.
Intermediate Computer Skills (moderate understanding of operating systems, word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, databases).
Required:
Valid class 5 driver's license & satisfactory drivers abstract
Criminal Record Check clearance
