We are seeking a compassionate, trauma-informed Youth Worker to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting and mentoring children, with disabilities, many of whom may have experienced trauma. Your primary focus will be to create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment that promotes healing, personal growth, and resilience. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of young people through strength-based and trauma-aware approaches.
Responsibilities
Build safe, trusting relationships
with youth by demonstrating consistency, respect, and genuine care.
Provide direct support
to youth, always ensuring their physical and emotional safety and well-being.
Engaging, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive activities
that promote social-emotional learning, teamwork, and self-advocacy.
Recognize and respond to signs of trauma
, using de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed strategies to support regulation and connection.
Encourage youth voice and choice in decision-making processes, fostering a sense of autonomy and empowerment.
Monitor progress and provide reflective, non-judgmental feedback through daily logs and communication
Assist in teaching life skills, academic content, or recreational activities in ways that are supportive, patient, and adaptable to individual needs.
Maintain accurate, confidential records of activities, progress, and any critical incidents in accordance with organizational policies and ethical guidelines.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience working with children or young adults in a supportive, trauma-aware or therapeutic role.
Understanding of trauma-informed care principles, or willingness to undergo training in trauma-informed practices.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Strong teaching, mentoring, or youth development skills are an asset.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to engage sensitively with youth, families, and professionals.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while also showing initiative and independence.
High levels of empathy, patience, cultural humility, and a genuine commitment to youth empowerment.
A valid Criminal Record and Social Development will be required prior to employment.
A degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent
