Young Parent Support Worker
in Surrey, where everyday is a chance to help shape brighter futures for young families in our community!
Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will be assisting youth and young families by providing them with the skills and resources to thrive and integrate into the community. As a Young Parent Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing personalized outreach to young parents, focusing on goal-oriented strategies for enhancing parenting, social skills, and independence. You'll also coordinate with social workers and community professionals, offering crisis intervention and equipping families with essential parenting skills and planning support.
Qualifications
==================
You will be part of a program that provides one on one support with parenting, prosocial activities, health, employment, education, and advocacy. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Child and Youth Care or a related field, with consideration given to a combination of education and relevant experience. A current
First Aid certificate
is required, and
experience with crisis line support
is advantageous. Candidates with experience working with Indigenous youth, as well as young parents and families, are preferred. Additionally, a
Class 5 Driver's License
, access to a reliable vehicle, and a satisfactory driving abstract are essential for this role.
The ideal candidate exhibits professional etiquette and a high level of flexibility and initiative, demonstrated through effective teamwork and strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. They possess a commitment to problem-solving, the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Sensitivity to sensitive issues, maintaining confidentiality, and respect for cultural and lifestyle diversity are crucial, while upholding ethical standards in all professional interactions.
This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
