Through the organization Chief Red Bear Children's Lodge (CRBCL), Cowessess First Nation is the first Indigenous community in Canada to assert its jurisdiction over child welfare and family services under the Bill-C92 Canada Act. CRBCL is currently developing its operations, in accordance with the Miyo Pimatisowin Act, which provides support for its children and families in a way that is rooted in traditional Indigenous values and cultural practices.
These positions will be located in Regina, SK and Cowessess First Nation.
Position Summary
CRBCL is seeking two Young Adulthood (Post Majority) Support Workers who will be responsible for providing consistent, culturally safe and trauma-informed support and guidance to Cowessess First Nation's youth and young adults aged 18 to 26 who are transitioning out of the child welfare system. The role focuses on helping the youth/young adult to build kinship connections and to understand and practice their Indigenous traditions, languages, and teachings alongside Western societal expectations and systems. In addition, the position will help the youth/young adult to build trusting and respectful relationships, foster life skills development, and empower them to achieve their personal, cultural, educational, and vocational goals to live independently.
As a Support Worker, you will anticipate needs and proactively address challenges, recognizing what needs to be done beforehand and acting on it. The Support Worker will guide the youth/young adult to problem solve and seek solutions independently by identifying issues and challenges and participate in solutions to reach individual goals. The position will ensure that youth and young adults have access to mentors, cultural knowledge, and will advocate for them to gain access to necessary resources (such as healthcare, education, employment and justice) to assist in their transition into adulthood.
