At Community Care Durham (CCD), coordinated networks of volunteers and inter-professional staff, working out of integrated community hubs and other locations, strive to enrich the well-being and quality of life for people wherever they choose to call home. As the largest community support services agency in Durham Region, CCD collaborates with its partners and the broader community to address community issues and support local citizens to achieve their goals to live independently.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Exercise and Falls Prevention, the Yoga Instructor is responsible for providing safe, engaging, and effective instruction and guidance tailored to the needs and abilities of the class.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Actively leads exercise classes, including aid to individual class participants, form corrections, exercise modifications, and promoting of guidelines for safe participation
Sets up of physical class environment (chairs, equipment, etc.), cleaning of exercise equipment in some service locations
Submits class attendance to program supervisor
Provides First aid and CPR assistance if/when required
Qualifications required:
Yoga Certification is required
Minimum 1-year experience leading exercise/fitness classes
Minimum 1-year experience working with seniors
Current Emergency First Aid Certificate CPR C & AED
Experience working with individuals with cognitive impairments including but not limited to: Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, and age-related cognitive decline an asset
Autonomy and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with clients, colleagues, supervisors, location staff and other healthcare professionals
Knowledge and understanding of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and how common injuries and/or surgeries may affect mobility
Experience working with mobility aid
Sensitivity to the needs of the vulnerable population with disabilities, including challenges in cognition
Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
Must work in a safe manner and promote the health and safety of all staff, volunteers, clients and the community as outlined within CCD policies
Compensation:
$27.00 per hour; with 6% vacation pay
Shift Availability:
Day shifts (Monday to Friday, from 9:00am - 4:00pm)
