We are seeking an experienced and passionate Childcare Manager to oversee our Early Learning, Programs including licensed Pre-Kindergarten, licensed and unlicensed Afterschool programs and Easter and Summer Camps. Position Summary
The Childcare Manager is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and growth of YMCA childcare programs across Western Newfoundland. This includes ensuring excellence in program delivery, adherence to licensing and legal requirements, and the effective management of human resources, budgets, and operational procedures. You will lead a team of Early Learning professionals and supervisors, ensuring compliance with YMCA policies, provincial regulations, and high standards of care and education. This position may require evenings and weekends as well as travel which will be accomplished within a 40-hour work week.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Program Oversight
Provide strategic and operational leadership for all YMCA childcare programs in Western Newfoundland.
Support program growth and quality improvement through curriculum support, evaluation, and continuous learning.
Ensure programs meet YMCA standards, Playing to Learn curriculum, and all provincial licensing requirements.
Human Resource Management
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate childcare staff and volunteers.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented workplace culture aligned with YMCA values.
Apply effective performance management, coaching, and conflict resolution strategies.
Ensure HR policies and employment standards are followed consistently and fairly.
Operations, Policy & Compliance
Maintain compliance with all YMCA and government policies, procedures, and licensing standards.
Liaise with provincial regulatory authorities, landlords, and community partners to sustain quality facilities and licensing requirements.
Implement and monitor child protection, health, and safety policies across all childcare sites.
Ensure all staff and programs uphold confidentiality, inclusion, and child well-being practices.
Financial & Administrative Management
Develop, monitor, and manage budgets, payroll, invoicing, and financial reporting for childcare operations.
Ensure sound fiscal management, efficient use of resources, and alignment with YMCA financial policies.
Oversee registration systems, enrollment reports, and administrative records accurately.
Support funding applications, reports, and audits as needed.
Legal and Licensing Responsibilities
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Child Care Act, Childcare Regulations, Child Care Centre Operating Grant Program Policy and Standards and other relevant provincial and federal legislation.
Ensure operational compliance with workplace, safety, and privacy laws.
Prepare and maintain required documentation for licensing renewals and inspections.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education (Level II or higher)
Infant / Pre-School / Pre-K / School age
Minimum 5 years of experience in childcare management or early learning leadership.
Demonstrated experience in HR management, budgeting, and policy implementation.
Strong knowledge of provincial childcare licensing regulations and YMCA standards.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to lead teams and build positive relationships with families and community partners.
Current Standard First Aid & CPR (Level C).
Valid Newfoundland and Labrador driver's license and access to an insured vehicle.
Acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks.
