Position Overview
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Yard Manager is responsible for the daily management of the Non Ferrous and Ferrous yard operations at ABC's flagship yard in Burnaby, B.C. This role will oversee a large, diverse production team and will work to increase the production efficiencies, while also collaborating with the Product Manager and Operations Manager to achieve productions goals and targets.
The ideal candidate will be able to handle change management and have experience in a fast-paced manufacturing and logistics environment. Also responsible for ensuring that environmental requirements and safety guidelines are adhered to and followed on a consistent basis.
Responsibilities
Production & Shipping
: Oversees daily, weekly, and monthly yard operations to meet production, processing, and shipping targets aligned with KPIs.
Team Leadership & Engagement
: Manages labourers and equipment operators, ensuring safety, productivity, staff engagement, recognition, and proper training.
Safety & Compliance
: Promotes a strong safety culture, ensures regulatory compliance, and conducts inspections to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
Quality Control
: Ensures proper grading, processing, and inspection of materials to meet quality standards for outbound shipments.
Environmental Responsibility
: Implements and monitors environmental control measures, investigates impacts, and ensures adequate supplies are available.
Process Improvement & Communication
: Provides feedback to leadership and assists in implementing process or structural changes to improve operational efficiency.
Operational Support & Oversight
: Coordinates with scale operators, manages yard traffic flow, oversees equipment use, orders supplies, and performs tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Experience managing a diverse team in a heavy industrial, manufacturing work environment, or relevant experience.
3+ years' experience in implementing production plans and meeting production targets in a manufacturing and heavy industrial work environment, or relevant experience.
Ability to operate one or more of: forklift, skid steer, or front-end loader.
Proven experience managing production change processes, especially those heavily reliant on elimination of human error.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Metal recycling background is an asset.
Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset.
