Job Summary

The Yard Associate is responsible for loading, unloading, and storing materials in the lumberyard while providing prompt and efficient customer service. This role involves using equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks to manage inventory and assist customers. The Yard Associate plays a key role in maintaining an organized yard, ensuring safety, and supporting the overall operations of the store.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

Customer Service Greet and verbally communicate with customers, management, and staff both in person and by telephone. Ensure customers have a positive shopping experience; take steps to rectify any issues. Assist customers with product information and recommendations. Help customers gather and load orders, ensuring a positive shopping experience. Provide assistance with special orders, and keep customers informed on the status of their orders. Resolve customer complaints in a courteous and efficient manner. Material Handling Load and unload materials safely using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment including vehicles. Assist customers with handling large or heavy items and loading them into vehicles. Ensure products are stored properly in the yard and replenished as needed. Inventory Management Track and manage inventory by verifying deliveries, checking for damages, and reporting shortages or backorders. Restock lumber bins and ensure merchandise is organized for easy access. Store Readiness & Maintenance Support opening and closing procedures, including security measures and housekeeping duties. Assist with general housekeeping duties, ensuring cleanliness and orderliness throughout the store, warehouse, parking lot and yard. Professionalism & Appearance Maintain a professional, well-groomed appearance in line with the store's uniform policy. Safety & Security Monitor for potential shoplifting incidents and take appropriate actions as per store policy. Follow and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for employees and customers, including movement of product on store vehicles. Safely operate equipment and vehicles required for efficient yard operation Ensure OHS standards are policies are being followed. Team Support & Training Assist in training new personnel. Attend store meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities. Support store management with additional duties or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous construction and labour experience is an asset. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team. Willingness to learn and continuously develop professional skills.
Working Conditions

Work in a fast-paced environment that requires long periods of standing and walking. Exposure to dust and strong odors. Lift and carry merchandise weighing up to 100 lbs. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.50-$19.00 per hour
