Yard & Sales Support Representative

plays a vital dual role in supporting both the yard operations and customer service counter. This position ensures customers receive professional, knowledgeable assistance -- whether selecting materials, preparing orders, or loading products. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-conscious, and passionate about providing excellent service in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

The

Yard & Sales Support Representative will be expected to work Monday, Tuesdays & Fridays from 11am to 5:30pm

and the occasional evening, weekend or holiday.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales

Provide exceptional service to contractors, homeowners, and DIY customers, both at the counter and in the yard. Assist customers with product selection, pricing, and estimates, ensuring materials meet their project needs. Offer informed guidance on product applications, building codes, and permit requirements. Process transactions, returns, and special orders accurately and efficiently. Promote seasonal products and recommend complementary items to boost sales.

Yard Operations & Material Handling

Load and unload building materials, lumber, and hardware safely and efficiently. Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other yard equipment following company safety procedures. Prepare orders for delivery or pickup, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Maintain an organized and clean yard, ensuring materials are stored properly and accessible. Conduct regular stock counts and assist with inventory organization and replenishment.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Follow all company health and safety protocols and report any hazards or incidents immediately. Ensure safe handling and storage of materials to prevent damage or injury. Support loss prevention by monitoring yard activity and adhering to inventory control procedures.

Team & Professional Development

Collaborate closely with sales, operations, and delivery teams to ensure smooth order flow and customer satisfaction. Participate in ongoing product and safety training to stay current on new materials and industry trends. Contribute to a positive, respectful, and team-oriented workplace culture.

Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

Prior experience in a lumber yard, building supply store, or hardware retail environment preferred. Experience operating forklifts or other material-handling equipment an asset.

Knowledge:

Familiarity with lumber grades, building materials, and general construction products. Understanding of local building codes and permit processes is an asset.

Skills:

Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to read and interpret product specifications and order details. Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented with basic computer and POS system knowledge.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move materials up to 100 lbs. Comfortable working outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions. Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and walking.

Working Conditions

Work performed both indoors (sales counter) and outdoors (yard environment). Exposure to weather elements such as rain, snow, heat, and cold. Requires use of PPE (personal protective equipment) as per company safety policy. May include evenings, weekends, and holidays as business demands require.
