Faculty/Academic Area: Faculty of ArtsDepartment: Political ScienceCampus: WaterlooEmployee Group: WLUFARequisition ID: 7710Position Title: XLAW405: Canadian Administrative LawTerm: July 29 - October 11, 2024Days/Times: Asynchronous online lesson; bi-weekly remote, synchronous 2-hour tutorials from July 29- October 11, 2024Hours per week/Hours Total: 6 per week/36 totalType of Course: Asynchronous onlineAnticipated Class Size: 38Posted on: May 17 2024Posting ends: May 31 2024Position Summary: The online course, XLAW405: Canadian Administrative Law, is intended for undergraduate students completing their final year of a blended for students in the Laurier-Sussex stream in Criminology, Human Rights, Law and Society, Philosophy, and Political Science Honours programs.The main purpose of this course is to prepare students who have graduated from the Sussex LLB program to write and pass the NCA (National Committee on Accreditation) exam on Canadian Administrative Law and the course curriculum and learning materials for the course will be based on the NCA\'s course syllabusThis course will examine rules and principles regulating the operation of the Crown, Cabinets, Ministers, government departments, municipal corporations, administrative tribunals and agencies. The students will study the procedures by which all these governmental subjects operate, the jurisdictional and substantive limits on their mandates, and the remedial structures that exist to ensure that government decision-makers act in accordance with the rule of law.The successful hire will be responsible for delivering effective instruction which reflect the current state of knowledge and the most updated NCA course outline, meeting students at scheduled times (except for reasonable change with due notice where possible), grading assignments fairly and objectively, providing timely and constructive feedback to students, responding to student enquiries and being available for student consultations.Online Learning InformationIf you have questions about teaching Online Learning courses, please contact Jon Hind, Online Learning Prod Coordinator, at jhind@wlu.ca.Qualifications - Required: JD or LL.B., or preferred LL.M, and experience in the subject matter of Canadian administrative law.Success in teaching Canadian administrative law courses, experience in developing and/or teaching in an online environment, and a receptivity to accessible and inclusive pedagogical approaches that specifically embrace online learners are preferred, but not mandatory.
