Faculty/Academic Area: Faculty of ArtsDepartment: Political ScienceCampus: WaterlooEmployee Group: WLUFARequisition ID: 7706Position Title: XLAW401: Canadian Professional ResponsibilityTerm: August 26 - October 4, 2024Days/Times: Asynchronous online lesson; two weekly remote, synchronous 2-hour tutorials from August 26 - October 4, 2024Hours per week/Hours Total: 6 per week/36 totalType of Course: Asynchronous onlineAnticipated Class Size: 38Posted on: Friday May 17 2024Posting ends: Friday May 31 2024Position Summary: The online course, XLAW401: Canadian Professional Responsibility, is intended for undergraduate students completing their final year of a blended for students in the Laurier-Sussex stream in Criminology, Human Rights, Law and Society, Philosophy, and Political Science Honours programs.The main purpose of this course is to prepare students who have graduated from the Sussex LLB program to write and pass the NCA (National Committee on Accreditation) exam on Canadian Professional Responsibility and the course curriculum and learning materials for the course will be based on the NCA\'s course syllabusThis course explores aspects of the Canadian law required to achieve competency to enter the legal profession: knowledge, skills, and professionalism. In this course, students will learn about rights and ethical duties of Canadian lawyers towards clients, courts and the society. The course examines issues of the role of lawyers in Canadian society, regulation of lawyers, the lawyer-client relationship, conflict of interest, legal ethics in different areas of practice and access to justice.The successful hire will be responsible for delivering effective instruction which reflect the current state of knowledge and the most updated NCA course outline, meeting students at scheduled times (except for reasonable change with due notice where possible), grading assignments fairly and objectively, providing timely and constructive feedback to students, responding to student enquiries and being available for student consultations.Online Learning InformationIf you have questions about teaching Online Learning courses, please contact Jon Hind, Online Learning Prod Coordinator, at jhind@wlu.ca.Qualifications - Required: JD or LL.B., or preferred LL.M, and experience in the subject matter of Canadian professional responsibility.Success in teaching Canadian professional responsibility courses, experience in developing and/or teaching in an online environment, and a receptivity to accessible and inclusive pedagogical approaches that specifically embrace online learners are preferred, but not mandatory.
