- Writing Coach

Options Solutions is seeking a part-time Writing Coach to join our talented team. The Writing Coach helps guide grade 12 students through the university application process, which includes helping them to conceive, write, and edit their application essays. The Writing Coach is a team leader and member in weekly Writing Workshops, one of our most popular services, where they engage with students, offer constructive feedback, and contribute to the workshops' fun and productive environment. The Writing Coach helps all students at Options with the basics of writing one-on-one and teaches dimensional group sessions, following our curriculum. The Writing Coach also teaches one-on-one and group standardized test prep (ACT and SAT).

All applicants must currently reside in British Columbia and be available to work both in-person and virtually.



Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:



Conduct one-on-one student writing coach appointments Facilitate group application writing workshops Lead writing focused workshops year-round for various age groups and ability levels Maintain communication with families to support them through the process Create new programs or personalize existing programs with new materials/approaches Contribute positively to weekly Writing Coach meetings

Qualifications:



Degree in English or related field (history, education, creative writing, etc.) Experience in professional and academic writing Experience teaching small group sessions and/or familiarity with adolescents and tutoring Would be beneficial, but not required: knowledge of the Canadian, UK, and US post-secondary admissions processes and knowledge of standardized prep exams (SAT, ACT, PSAT, SSAT, etc.)

Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal, written and digital) skills with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and feedback to students Empathetic with strong cross-cultural awareness Ability to connect and build relationships with a wide range of adolescents Ability to express feedback about writing with conviction, but also with a gentle hand Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment Ability to multitask, organize and prioritize work, and deliver/meet deadlines in a timely manner Forward thinking, creative, and innovative Proactive problem solver Ability to exercise diplomacy, tact and maintain confidentiality

Salary Range:

$28-30 per hour
