Compensation Range

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Summary

The Workplace Wellbeing Practices and Learning Consultant provides leadership and expertise with broad-reaching influence across the University by advocating, promoting and leading strategic, evidence-based and innovative University-wide workplace wellbeing actions, initiatives, and learning opportunities that support the UBC Strategic Plan, Wellbeing Strategic Framework, the UBC Focus on People strategy, Inclusion Action Plan, Indigenous Strategic Plan, and the Okanagan Charter: An International Charter for Health Promoting Universities and Colleges that supports a diverse, inclusive, and vibrant workplace where all people, places, and communities can flourish.

The Workplace Wellbeing Practices and Learning Consultant engages strategically, collaboratively and through inquiry with senior leaders and stakeholders in diverse portfolios across the institution; advocates for the psychological and physical wellbeing of faculty, staff, and workplaces; influences organizational workplace wellbeing strategies, priorities, and learning opportunities; collaboratively identifies opportunities and implements evidence-based and innovative actions and practices that reinforce the University s mission, values, and culture that recognizes that individual wellbeing practices as well as the social, psychological and physical environment are important factors that collectively contribute the success and positive contribution of faculty, staff, and workplaces, and ensures the University is a healthy, safe and supportive place to work.

Organizational Status

Reports to the Senior Lead, Workplace Wellbeing Strategies, and works collaboratively with others across the VP HR portfolio, VP Students portfolio and within faculties, departments and administrative units. Liaises externally with other health and wellbeing professionals, consultants, and/or service providers.

Work Performed

Leads, advocates for, promotes, designs, implements and influences strategic, cohesive and comprehensive University wide workplace wellbeing actions, initiatives, learning and development opportunities. Develops partnerships with HR, faculties, departments and administrative units to ensure faculty and staff benefit from a physically and psychologically safe and healthy work environment and have access to opportunities to adopt healthy and productive lifestyle practices and coping skills. Educates leadership, managers, and supervisors on the factors that influence and promote wellbeing in the workplace through dialogue, access to resources, and embedding learning in development programs.

Oversees a systematic and coordinated evaluation of the wellbeing of the University s workplace and to identify trends and psychosocial risk factors that have a negative impact on the work environment. Assesses workplace wellbeing needs of Faculties, departments, and units. Analyzes the root causes and creates an integrated and collaborative approach to developing plans and/or new actions or initiatives based on those findings. Maintains evaluation framework and monitors outcomes to ensure effectiveness of actions or initiatives.

Guides the execution, delivery, and reporting of workplace wellbeing audits and assessments of policies, procedures, processes, and decision-making. Ensures the appropriate stakeholders are involved, manages relationships, oversees the work of consultants, and ensures the delivery of reports, related recommendations, and evaluations are on time.

Engages, establishes, and mobilizes internal and external training, and learning opportunities to meet workplace wellbeing learning and organizational needs. Creates long-term workplace wellbeing learning strategy and plan defining objectives, outcomes, facilitator criteria, and delivery approaches. Evaluates outcomes of plan and facilitation effectiveness to recommend improvements to programs, initiatives, and oversight of facilitators.

Identifies and recommends organizational priorities, strategies, and themes related to developing a sustainable and healthy workplace at the faculty, administrative unit and department level. Collaborates with the Workplace Engagement and Learning team, UBC Wellbeing and HWB colleagues to analyze Workplace Experiences Survey results and other internal and external data to inform recommendations.
Develops reports and presentations related to workplace wellbeing for multiple audiences and stakeholders, including UBC s Board of Governors and executive team.

Advises HR leadership and colleagues across the University on strategic priorities that enhance the psychological and physical health and wellbeing of faculty and staff and support a physically and psychologically safe work environment. Includes building a strong partnership with HR WPLE to deliver and/or source workplace wellbeing learning needs for leaders, managers, and supervisors.
Leads marketing/tendering processes for external resources, services, and facilitators related to workplace wellbeing, including managing contracts and relationships for the effective provision of wellbeing resources, services, and facilitation of programming. Maintains and monitors roster of external vendors and facilitators.

Works closely with the University s internal communications team to ensure alignment between UBC s workplace wellbeing strategies and the University s internal communications strategy.
Develops, manages and monitors related budgets, adhering to financial guidelines, ensuring value for money and acting as appropriate within delegated authorities.

Develops and monitors metrics, measurement and feedback mechanisms to ensure objectives are achieved.

Sources and responds to award opportunities that bring recognition to UBC s workplace wellbeing actions and initiatives and other reputational opportunities. Leads the completion of award applications in collaboration with UBC colleagues.

Leads wellbeing planning and implementation in collaboration with HR colleagues for the VP HR portfolio.

Performs other related duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Inadequate workplace wellbeing actions, shifts in practices, and initiatives could result in lost opportunity to help prevent or reduce the negative impact of psychological and physical illness in faculty, and staff including reduced psychological health and safety in workplace environments, which in turn may affect absenteeism, disability, turnover and lost productivity. Errors in judgement could result in a loss of credibility related to UBC s commitment to Wellbeing and organizational priorities in supporting a diverse, inclusive, and vibrant workplace where all people, places, and communities can flourish.

Supervision Received

Works independently, under direction and within broad objectives. Exercises considerable judgment in carrying out assignments, and is accountable for the effectiveness of educational programs and learning initiatives. Keeps the Senior Lead informed of actions through reports and discussions.

Supervision Given

Manages projects and directs the work of external contractors, student employees and other HR professionals as required. Provides coaching and develops other staff to build their knowledge and capacity related to workplace wellbeing.

Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of five to seven years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications
Master s degree preferred (e.g., Educational Psychology, Behavioural Sciences, Organizational Development, and/or Adult Education). Experience in advocating, promoting and leading successful workplace wellbeing strategies and plans in a large complex organization preferred. Human Resources Advisory / Generalist or Organizational Development experience an asset. Demonstrated experience conceptualizing, planning, leading, and implementing successful workplace wellbeing strategies and plans in a large complex organization.
Demonstrated working knowledge and understanding of the legislative environment impacting workplaces, issues that impact wellbeing both in and outside the workplace, and actions or initiatives that support workplace wellbeing.
Proven strategic, big picture thinker with strong business acumen and understanding of complexities within large organizations.
Demonstrated experience in planning and managing projects, meeting deadlines and resolving unexpected and/or ambiguous situations or issues.
Proven ability to build effective relationships, negotiate, and influence others across and at all levels of the organization within a collaborative framework.
Demonstrates a strong personal commitment to removing barriers preventing the inclusion of marginalized groups, works respectfully and embraces working with students, staff and faculty who hold a range of worldviews. Takes initiative to learn about issues relating to equity and inclusion and actively embeds this learning in their work.
Ability to analyse and understand workplace data and develop compelling and authentic workplace narratives that inform organizational decision-making and priority setting.
