The Working Leader - Service Worker is responsible for in-scope portering leadership to service worker I staff and the coordination of a centralized system of dispatching patients, supplies, equipment, blood products & specimens to all hospital departments. Working Leader directs, monitors, and ensures transportation tasks are completed in accordance with established Alberta Health Services' standards and practices. The Department promotes the AHS values of compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and safety and is focused on Patient and Family Centered Care. Working leaders are important and vital members who lead by example. It is a dynamic role, performing a variety of duties related to leading and coaching staff as well as performing routine jobs required with the support of other Working Leaders, Supervisors and the Manager. They ensure the smooth workflow throughout the shift and trouble shoot problems and concerns as they arise. Working knowledge and operation of a computer, smart phone, and computer programs in Microsoft Office, such as MS Word, Excel, and email. A Working Leader-Service Worker must possess good interpersonal and social skills necessary to communicate instructions, as well as clarify jobs. The Working Leader must always be willing and able to complete jobs themselves, supporting the staff especially when staffing levels are low. The Working Leader must show the ability to work with a diverse mix of staff, patients, and stakeholders in a health care environment.Description:As a Working Leader - Service Worker, you will be responsible for providing daily leadership to Service Worker staff such as assigning and checking their work, maintaining workflow of the assigned area and providing input into staff performance appraisals. You will act as a formal resource to staff, assist with the day-to-day operational requirements for the area and assist in the orientation and training of new staff. In addition, you will direct, monitor, and ensure the coordination of a centralized system of dispatching supplies and equipment to patient care areas. Where applicable, you will also direct and monitor a centralized system for the transportation of patients (clients/residents) to and from patient care areas within a site.

Required Qualifications:Grade 12 or equivalent. Additional Required Qualifications:Physically capable to walk and/or stand for the duration of your shift and perform repetitive physical movements. Physically capable to lift, push and pull 50lbs regularly. A recognized supervisor training program or related secondary education required (a combination of education, training and relevant experience, including customer service experience, may be considered). Minimum two (2) years' experience with healthcare supplies/equipment and procedures required. Supervisor and leadership skills required. Demonstrate entry level leadership skills, dependability, the ability to work independently and cooperatively with others while effectively providing direction to staff. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand, follow and give written and oral instructions in English. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required. Must possess initiative, accuracy, flexibility/adaptability, organizational traits, be efficient, and cooperative. Must be reliable and capable of working independently. Must be able to apply logical thinking to a range of variable situations and problem solve while completing all day-to-day activities. Ability to organize workloads assessing priorities, and ensure duties are completed in a timely manner. Ability to work in stressful situations, ability to maintain composure and the ability to make decisions in emergency situations are essential. Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to applicants with Supervisory/Management Courses/Certificates or equivalent, and/or prior leadership experience. Knowledge of AHS Linen & Environmental Services policies, guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures is preferred. Knowledge of floor care restoration, cleaning equipment and tools, including their uses, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting, is preferred as this role maybe required to provide in-scope leadership for Environmental services.
