We are currently seeking a
Working at Heights Instructor
to join our team at the Toronto campus. This position is ideal for safety professionals with proven experience in fall protection and adult training who want to make a positive impact on the next generation of skilled workers.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver the Ministry of Labour-approved Working at Heights Training Program in accordance with provincial standards.
Facilitate engaging classroom and hands-on training sessions, ensuring student understanding and competency.
Evaluate participant performance and provide constructive feedback.
Ensure all safety and training equipment is properly used, inspected, and maintained.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, evaluations, and certifications.
Stay current with legislation, regulations, and best practices related to working at heights.
Represent Herzing College with professionalism and uphold our commitment to student success.
Qualifications & Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet
Ministry of Labour instructor requirements
, including:
Occupational Health & Safety Knowledge
: One or more of the following:
Professional OHS designation;
30+ hours of recent OHS training;
Five years of OHS experience;
OHS degree, diploma, or certificate;
Three years as a certified Joint Health & Safety Committee member.
Adult Education Experience
:
100+ documented hours of adult instruction in the past 5 years; OR
Degree/diploma/certificate in adult education; OR
Instructor certification from a recognized training provider (e.g., IHSA).
Working at Heights Knowledge
:
Completion of a WAH train-the-trainer program; OR
Five years of recent fall protection training experience; OR
Co-facilitation of at least two approved WAH sessions.
Additional Requirements
:
In-depth knowledge of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, and fall protection codes/standards.
Demonstrated expertise in safe use and inspection of fall protection equipment.
Valid Standard First Aid & CPR with AED certification (WSIB-approved).
Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
WSIB coverage or exemption if working as an independent contractor.
