Program Overview
The Toronto Youth Job Corps (TYJC) program helps vulnerable youth between the ages of 15 and 30 gain sustainable employment through skill development and life skills training. A 5-week pre-employment training program, skill assessment, and community project experience leads to an 8-16 week subsidized work placement, with the goal of securing full time employment with the same or a different employer. Staff typically work with sector partners to place participants in various job placements, monitor their performance, provide structured feedback and assess suitability for full time employment.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • Meet job placement and retention targets using job development expertise including JVS Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s consultative sales model
  • Establish employment opportunities by contacting employers using random and targeted lead generation to ensure a diverse job bank that match clients\xe2\x80\x99 abilities and interests
  • Actively prospect (cold call) and network with employers; assess employer needs, and determine features/benefits using job development and sales skills
  • Work with clients to target their job search strategy to available job prospects; provide insights related to job interviews and job retention with employers
  • Monitor placements to maintain client success and assist with work-related issues or job performance that considers both employer feedback and the potential need for individual supports
  • Negotiate job placements that meet both client and employer needs including financial Training Incentives, complete all necessary agreement details, documentation, and approvals
  • Assess work environment to ensure employers meet legislative requirements
  • Maintain detailed employer and client records; enter all required information into a database
  • Strengthen relationships with employers by maintaining regular contact, research labour-market trends, and integrate the TYJC program as part of their recruitment efforts long term
  • Contribute and organize employer events, i.e. job fairs, employer info sessions, hiring events, etc.
  • As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, support the overall program planning and delivery as needed
Flexible hours / evenings / weekends may be required for this position.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • College diploma in Human Resources, Marketing, or Social Services; or evaluated as the Canadian equivalency
  • 1-2 years of job development experience, particularly working with youth
  • Strong customer service skills and experience taking initiative; demonstrated problem-solving and decision making skills with an ability to deal effectively with employers and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of vulnerable youth with an ability to develop and maintain relationships with young people
  • Sensitivity and tact to deal effectively with youth from different backgrounds and life circumstances
  • Possess current working knowledge of employment-related issues and learning approaches to make use of suitable marketing techniques to attract employers
  • An understanding of barriers to employment success and knowledge of the current local labor market
  • Ability to take innovative and resourceful approaches to assist youth with achieving their employment goals
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; experience with writing reports to agency standards
  • Computer literate, proficient in Microsoft Office; ability to learn systems used by the agency (i.e. Salesforce)
  • A clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required for this position
Our ideal candidate will also have:
  • Experience working in sales or recruitment
  • A valid Ontario driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence and access to a vehicle as travel is required for this position
  • Knowledge of employment legislation (Occupational Health & Safety Act, ESA, Human Rights)
