Job Description


The Edmonton Police Service requires a self-motivated and organized individual to provide clerical support to the Hit & Run Unit and Major Collisions Investigation Section \xe2\x80\x93 MCIS. Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Assist with concluding incomplete collision files received from the collision reporting center (CRC) by reviewing, amending, reworking, and approving the reports.
  • Receive requests from the public, insurance companies, and law firms to amend collision reports and liaise with Alberta Transportation.
  • Send / receive email to / from EPS members to amend / conclude eCollision reports.
  • Liaise with Central Registries, Data Entry Unit, Correspondence Unit, and Police Report Classifier Unit when amendments to files are needed.
  • Receive / review all collision reports from all other law enforcement agencies. Forward these files to the CRC for reporting. Assign incoming hit and run files to hit and run sergeant for assignment.
  • Compile collision charge file packages (statements, pictures, suspect driver / vehicles) and forward to hit and run unit.
  • Search Moves & CPIC for suspect driver / vehicle owner to help complete files.
  • Assist investigating members by creating a Genetec clearance case link to obtain surveillance video. Download surveillance video received directly from the public on to a DVD.
  • Call / email insurance agencies & brokers to find out if drivers have valid insurance.
  • Update involved drivers / registered owners regarding their collisions; request drivers to report their half of the collision, provide guidance / consequences of failing to report under the Traffic Safety Act.
  • Receive requests from EPS Correspondence Unit for completed collision reports, email EPS members if collision report needs to be started or completed.
  • Delete all non-reportable collision reports from eCollision.
  • Calculate monthly stats and email information to the traffic analyst and email weekly stats to the hit and run sergeant.
  • Download all property and minor injury collision report packages (collision reports, statements, and photos) that was started and completed by EPS in eCollision. Send report packages to the collision reporting center on monthly basis.
  • Check JOIN for upcoming court dates for hit & run suspects so EPS members can locate their files.
  • Order supplies for hit & run unit and Major Collision Investigation Section.
  • Send / receive mail for the traffic section unit.
  • General administrative tasks assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade including business subjects with an emphasis on word and information processing, or completion of an appropriate certificate program from an approved business school/college, supplemented by training in basic microcomputer applications.
  • A minimum of two (2) years diversified word and information processing experience.
  • Proficiency with eCollision, Inet Viewer, Roads, CPIC, JOIN, CROMS, Genetec clearance.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and capable of learning a computer payroll (CARM).
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Applicants may be tested.
  • As part of your pre-hire screening, you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
Hours of Work:

40 hours per week, Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday - 0730 \xe2\x80\x93 1530.

Salary Range:

21B, Salary Grade: 007, $22.36 - $27.76 (Hourly), $1,788.90 - $2,221.20 (Bi-Weekly), $46,689.77 - $57,973.32 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
