Term Part-time Women's ?Counsellor (weekends/evenings)
Term: October 4, 2025 - March 8, 2026
?Principal Duties:
To carry out the responsibilities of a Women's ?Counsellor in a shelter serving women and their children leaving intimate partner violence.
Basic duties include, but are not limited to, answering the 24-hour distress/crisis line; intake for women and children entering the shelter; providing both crisis and supportive counselling, safety planning, advocacy, and referrals; as well as performing household duties that support residents during their stay at the shelter.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Community Studies, Psychology, and/or equivalent combination of training and experience, with current First Aid, NVCI, and CPR.
Experience and knowledge of working with women and children who have experienced various levels of violence and trauma, as well as the basic principles of crisis intervention - de-escalation strategies.
Proven track record of dependability and reliability in an employment setting
Experience providing resources and support for individuals who use drugs and/or are in the process of recovery from addiction.
Experience delivering services and support to people who have experienced trauma and are living with mental illness.
Demonstrated capacity to manage conflict within the workplace with professionalism.
Basic skills in the use of Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.
