Chambar is one of Vancouver's most enduring and celebrated dining rooms -- a restaurant built on integrity, creativity, and the pursuit of excellence without pretense. For over two decades, we've cultivated a reputation for exceptional cuisine, warm hospitality, and a deep respect for the artistry of wine and food pairing.
We are seeking a
Wine Director
with both depth and character -- someone who moves effortlessly between the cellar, the dining room, and the community. A professional who balances curiosity with discipline, and who thrives in a culture where excellence is the baseline, not the goal.
Position Overview
The
Wine Director
is responsible for curating and leading a beverage program that reflects Chambar's identity: refined, dynamic, and deeply connected to the seasons. Working closely with Chef Nico Schuermans, the Wine Director will craft pairings that elevate our menu and create meaningful experiences for our guests.
This is a leadership position for someone who not only embodies mastery, but also shares it -- advancing the service team through structured education, mentorship, and daily coaching. The successful candidate will be a natural leader who develops others while driving the restaurant's continued excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Curate and oversee a wine list that is balanced, intelligent, and continually evolving with the menu.
Design and deliver ongoing wine education and service training to elevate the front-of-house team.
Lead by example on the floor, engaging guests with authenticity, professionalism, and genuine enthusiasm.
Partner with the culinary team to design pairings that express both creativity and restraint.
Manage all aspects of wine procurement, pricing, and inventory with precision and integrity.
Cultivate relationships with importers, wineries, and local producers to maintain Chambar's position as a leader in Vancouver's wine community.
Support private dining and special events with thoughtful beverage selections.
Foster a culture of pride, curiosity, and professionalism within the team.
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years
in a senior sommelier, beverage director, or wine leadership role in a high-performing restaurant.
Recognized sommelier certification (WSET Level 3, CMS, or equivalent).
Exceptional knowledge of both classic and emerging wine regions.
Proven ability to teach, mentor, and inspire others toward excellence.
Strong balance of operational discipline and creative sensibility.
A mindset that combines artistry, systems thinking, and quiet confidence.
What We Offer
Competitive salary and performance-based bonus structure.
Comprehensive benefits package.
Creative freedom within a supportive and values-driven culture.
Opportunity to lead one of Vancouver's most respected wine programs and shape its next evolution.
A platform to influence and mentor the next generation of wine professionals.
