The Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) group, part of the Information Technology Services (ITS) division, is responsible for campus core network, campus wireless, wide area network connectivity and internet connectivity for the University, including connectivity to research and
education networks.

EIS is also responsible for services related to departmental network management, network, server and storage infrastructure, Windows and Linux server management services, database and application integration and support, enterprise backup service, 24/7 operation of central administrative data centres and telecommunications services.

Your opportunity:

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) portfolio, operating as Information Technology Services (ITS), is home to over 200 IT professionals who provide University-wide IT services and systems to enable University of Toronto (U of T) to maintain its status as Canada\xe2\x80\x99s leading institution of learning, discovery and knowledge creation. ITS provides leadership and undertakes strategic and tactical initiatives to secure the greatest value from the University\xe2\x80\x99s investment in IT. The incumbent is part of a group responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Windows Servers and subsystem server software for divisional and enterprise partners at the University of Toronto. This includes development and update of architectural frameworks for such systems, closely collaborating with partners, systems requirement analysts, troubleshooting, testing, and projecting future resource requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and implementing new Windows Server operating systems and subsystems server software
  • Planning and implementing expansion and enhancement of IT networks independently
  • Analyzing, troubleshooting and testing highly complex systems
  • Probing for information to establish needs
  • Troubleshooting network performance issues
  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
  • Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides
  • Planning phased releases of large projects
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years experience inthe analysis, specification, and operation of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, Microsoft IIS, Microsoft SQL, server application software, and network systems.
  • Excellent skills managing (e.g. designing, installing, monitoring, resource projecting, securing, improving reliability, debugging, etc.) Microsoft Windows Servers running .Net/Tomcat/Java/PHP/other application environments, Microsoft IIS, Microsoft SQL, etc. Experience with other appropriate Windows Server system administration tools.
  • Excellent PowerShell server administration scripting skills, and remote server administration.
  • Thorough understanding of IP protocols and network applications (e.g. ARP, UDP, VPN,SMB, SMTP, etc.) from a server management perspective. knowledge in cryptography and web/network security protocols, managing access (e.g. firewalls), securing servers, analyzing performance issues, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written presentation and communications skills with diverse partners across the University. Demonstrated strong documentation skills, and knowledge sharing.
  • Documented ability to diagnose complex technical problems on own and in collaboration with technical and non-technical team members, employing strong analytical skills.
  • Strong time management skills to address competing tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high organizational and leadership abilities, judgment, and tact.
  • Ability to work well as either a leader or a member of a project team, and with all levels of academic and administrative officials.
  • High degree of initiative.
  • Ability to perform regular research tasks.
Assets (Nonessential):
  • Experience prioritizing and managing requests within a help desk ticketing system (e.g. ServiceNow, JIRA, Zendesk, etc.) with many simultaneous open cases, following ITIL service desk principles.
  • Managing server TLS certificates, Load Balancing (e.g. HaProxy), SAML Web SSO server issues (e.g. Shibboleth), multi-server logs (e.g. Graylog), Active Directory.
  • Experience managing Windows Servers in on-premise virtual machines (e.g. VMWare), experience managing resources with one of the public clouds (e.g. Microsoft Azure).
