Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government\'s Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. EMC also operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians every day. We achieve this through more than 1,400 employees, including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers, and support staff.

The Windows IT System Administrator principal role is to provide technical and on-call support, in support of the Medavie Health Services group of company\xe2\x80\x99s critical operations systems, including but not limited to, the critical applications, IT infrastructure and other related IT equipment, field operations, and desktop support as required. The role is to manage and maintain our Windows system and server network. The role, you will be responsible for installing or upgrading Windows-based systems and servers, managing user access to the servers, and maintaining the security and stability of the network.

To ensure success as a Windows Administrator, you should have in-depth knowledge of Windows server setup, deployment, and maintenance, and the ability to solve complex IT issues. Ensuring the smooth running of the company\xe2\x80\x99s critical Infrastructure and server systems, while maintaining a high level of security.

The Windows IT System Administrator will examine and evaluate current systems, identifying system requirements and work as a liaison among stakeholders to track additional requirements and features. The Systems Administrator is also responsible to perform standard testing and provide solutions to ensure high levels of performance and security. The System Administrator should have a positive/can-do attitude, excellent problem-solving skills, works well under pressure, and is committed to continuous learning.

The position entails but is not limited to the following:

  • Create and manage automated business systems based on stakeholders needs using different corporately approved technologies.
  • Provide Tier 2/3 support to operational systems including troubleshooting user issues, software configuration and minor upgrades.
  • Diagnose and resolve software, hardware and networking problems or conflicts.
  • Manage commercial programs/software/hardware and customize them for internal needs.
  • Prepare computers for delivery to employees, load them with the appropriate software and operating system.
  • Purchase equipment and software through approved vendors.
  • Participate in IT Support after hours on-call rotation.
  • Perform upgrades and installation of IT server hardware, server software, virtualized environments and related back-end business applications.
  • Provide in-House maintenance for applications and/or liaise with the software vendor to ensure that upgrades and enhancements are applied and tested.
  • Create, update, and maintain proper support documentation on various systems, issues, and solutions.
  • Creates and maintains support documentation for all systems.
  • Additional preferred areas of Expertise:
  • Microsoft SQL
  • Computer Aided Dispatch (TriTech or LOGIS system)
  • Ticketing systems
  • Cisco call manager
  • Electronic Patient Care Reporting (Siren)
  • Vehicle Mobile Gateways (Sierra MG90s)
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Sciences or Information technology or equivalent experience.
  • Three to four years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in the IT industry with a minimum of two years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in administering Windows operating systems.
  • Qualification or study towards qualification as MCSE.
  • A+ Certification (or equivalent on the job training experience).
  • Additional training in IT and Computer Aided Dispatch systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of incident tracking applications such as Cherwell is considered an asset.
  • The ability to organize and manage distributed servers, understanding of TCP/IP and other LAN/WAN expertise.
  • An understanding of MS Office Suite software, TCP/IP networking, Internet and firewall technologies as well as databases and database administration including Microsoft SQL server.
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of explaining simple procedures in writing or verbally, has good phone skills.
