Make your mark while you grow your career! As the Wildlife Environmental Coordinator, you will make a significant contribution to Canadian Natural's Environmental programs. This position will support and provide guidance on wildlife and bird programs at Canadian Natural's Oil Sand Mining operations reporting to the Lead of Research (Wetlands & Aquatics). You will develop strategic wildlife management plans and be responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality execution of field programs that deliver on regulatory and stakeholder commitments related to wildlife. A primary function of this activity is the continued enhancement and operational excellence of a best-in-class bird and wildlife management systems.

• Job location: Horizon Oil Sands - Fort McMurray, Alberta

• Company sponsored fly-in/fly-out and camp facilities with flights from Calgary or Edmonton
• Shift schedule: 8 x 6 (Thurs -Thurs)
• Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:

• Develop and implement wildlife management and mitigation programs for Oil Sands mining operations
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies on matters pertaining to wildlife deterrents, environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance
• Conduct inspections of facilities for environmental compliance tracking
• Ensure the Bird Deterrent System is maintained, upgraded and deployed in a timely manner. Planning and execution with the contractor is required
• Obtain appropriate annual wildlife handling, research, and damage control permits.
• Complete supporting data and forms for regulatory application submissions and manage monitoring data and prepare maps and reports
• Promote Wildlife Awareness across Oil Sands mining operations for both mine staff and contractors and provide direction to project development activities as required
• Work with the mine reclamation team to establish wildlife habitat within reclamation areas

What You Bring to the Role:

• 3-5 years of experience in the field of biology along with environmental field experience
• Degree in a related discipline and a professional designation completed or in process of completion
• Experienced in writing reports for regulators and management
• An understanding of environmental issues within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo would be an asset
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ArcPro
• Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and codes including:

• Alberta Energy Regulator
• Alberta Environment and Protected Areas
• Environment Canada
