Job Title

Wildfire and Carbon Modelling Analyst

What will you be doing?

ACFOR is developing Community Wildfire Resiliency Plans, helping communities better prepare for a changing fire regime across the Maritimes. We also engage in a myriad of other projects, all with a focus on forest ecosystems. ACFOR is unique in that our plans aren't built to gather dust, with a fully integrated operations team, you will get to see all of your planning work come to life and realize the full intended impact of your thoughtful planning.

Who are you?

Education or professional experience in wildfire science, forest ecology, fire management, or a related natural resources field.

Practical understanding of wildfire behavior, fuels, and mitigation approaches (FireSmart, risk mapping, prescribed fire, etc.).

We're looking for someone that values the forest in all its many features and has a drive to improve forest management. A human who is legally entitled to work in Canada.

Has an undergraduate degree at a minimum, in a field related to the natural environment, OR considerable experience as a forest / ecological analyst.

How much will you earn?

This is a salary position with a rough expectation of 40 hours a week. Overtime is unlikely, but field days and travel in New Brunswick /

Remuneration will be in line with experience with a

minimum

rate of $25/hr

Qualifications Required

- Experience with forest / ecological / carbon modelling is required

- More-than-beginner ability with GIS (either QGIS or ArcGIS)

- More-than-beginner ability to program (R, Python, Arcade, Java, SQL, etc.)

- Comfort with office suite programs

Nice to have

- Specific experience with SyncroSim software, Canadian Wildland Fire Information System, Fire Red Book, Prometheus, Burn-P3

- PostgreSQL or database experience

- Community engagement / consultation

Really nice to have

- Fluency in French

- Eligibility for membership with ARPFNB

- Adept programming abilities

- Post-graduate degree

ACFOR est l'une des equipes au Nouveau-Brunswick qui developpe des Plans de Resilience aux Feux de Foret pour les communautes, aidant celles-ci a mieux se preparer face a un regime de feux en evolution dans les Maritimes. Nous participons egalement a une multitude d'autres projets, tous centres sur les ecosystemes forestiers.

Qui etes-vous ?
Nous recherchons quelqu'un qui valorise la foret dans toutes ses dimensions et qui a la volonte d'ameliorer la gestion forestiere. Une personne legalement autorisee a travailler au Canada.
Vous possedez au minimum un diplome de premier cycle dans un domaine lie a l'environnement naturel, OU une experience considerable en tant qu'analyste forestier / ecologique.

Remuneration
Il s'agit d'un poste salarie avec une expectation d'environ 40 heures par semaine. Les heures supplementaires sont peu probables, mais des journees sur le terrain et des deplacements au Nouveau-Brunswick sont a prevoir.
La remuneration sera proportionnelle a l'experience, avec un taux minimum de 25 $/h.
