Description:
Wheatland Housing Management Body (WHMB) is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Finance & Payroll Personnel to support its financial operations and payroll administration.
This role is responsible for accurately processing employee payroll, maintaining financial records, and supporting budget and audit processes.
WHMB provides affordable and supportive housing to seniors and community members across the Wheatland region. As a publicly funded organization, WHMB is committed to transparency, compassion, and excellence in service delivery.
The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency within WHMB's housing program and administrative operations.
Responsibilities:
Payroll Administration:
Process bi-weekly payroll for all WHMB employees, ensuring accuracy and adherence to Alberta labour standards and CRA regulations.
Maintain payroll records, including vacation accruals, sick leave, benefits deductions, and overtime tracking.
Prepare and issue year-end documents, such as T4's and ROEs.
Respond to staff inquiries related to payroll and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Financial Operations:
Assist with daily bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
Reconcile bank statements and vendor accounts monthly.
Support the preparation of financial reports for management and the Board.
Monitor budget expenditures and flag variances to senior staff.
Audit and Compliance Support:
Ensure financial transactions comply with WHMB policies and procedures.
Assist in preparing documentation for annual audits, funding reports, and regulatory reviews.
Maintain organized records in compliance with records retention and privacy regulations.
Collaboration and Administration:
Work closely with CAO/Deputy CAO to support the financial administration of WHMB's housing and operational programs.
Coordinate with external vendors, auditors, and government funding bodies as required.
Provide financial data support for grant applications and reporting.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Post-Secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
2 - 3 years of payroll and financial administration experience, preferably in an non-profit or municipal environment.
Experience working with financial software, such as Sage.
Knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) payroll legislation.
Skills & Competencies:
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience working with government-funded programs or public sector accounting is an asset.
Working Conditions:
Office-Based, Monday to Thursday schedule (some flexibility may be required during audits or payroll deadlines.)
Location of work is Wheatland Lodge - 76 - Second Street, Strathmore, Alberta. There is NO option to work remotely for this position.
Position may involve occasional interaction with tenants, board members and external partners.
