Bear Tracks Environmental Services (2015) Ltd. is seeking a permanent wetland specialist to join our growing team. Founded as a biological consulting firm in 2006, Bear Tracks\' experience portfolio has since grown to include an array of environmental consulting services, allowing us to meet the various needs of our industry and government clientele.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting field work and assisting with or leading the preparation of reporting deliverables. You will be asked to work alone at times and this position may also require some early mornings and late nights. Weekly schedules are typically 5 and 2, however depending on the project, some remote work may be required.
Wanting to be part of a vibrant team is a must. We take our work seriously, but fully understand that people have lives outside of their job. We like to keep it light, while providing an amazing product for our clients. This may not work for all companies, but it\'s worked well for us.
You must be familiar with wetland classifications both at the field and desktop level, and also with development and filing of regulatory applications. Experience with GIS is an asset, while proficiency with word and excel is a must. Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Conducting field level wetland assessments as per the Alberta Wetland Policy.
Conduct desktop wetland delineations using ArcGIS.
Development, review, and filing of regulatory applications including Wetland Assessment Impact Forms (WAIF) and Wetland Assessment Impact Reports (WAIR).
Provide signoff of applications.
Environmental monitoring of construction projects.
Technical report writing.
Proposal and cost estimate development.
Provide updates to senior staff as to the progress of various field programs.
Candidates will have the following qualifications and experience:
Bachelor\'s degree or technical diploma in ecology, environmental science, or related discipline.
Minimum 3 years of field experience with some of that experience preferably gained from a consulting background.
Ability to classify and delineate wetland habitats in the various ecological regions of Alberta (Alberta Wetland Classification System) and Saskatchewan (Stewart & Kantrud).
Considered an Authenticating Professional relative to the requirements for wetland science, design and engineering work in Alberta.
Experience with filing and submission of wetland regulatory applications through DRAS or OneStop.
Knowledge of provincial and federal regulations, approval processes, and assessment guidelines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Currently registered as a Professional Agrologist/Biologist, Agrologist/Biologist in Training, or eligible for registration as a Professional Agrologist with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists or as a Professional Biologist with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists.
Must work well with others and be organized. Organization is key as you will be responsible for working on various projects concurrently.
Ability to read a map and use a GPS. It seems simple but some people lack this skill.
Valid Class 5 driver\'s license, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance, TDG, ATV safe rider, and First Aid are required. If you don\'t have any of these currently, we can work on getting them for you.

Vegetation identification skills
Soils identification skills
A basic understanding of hydrology
