Location: YMCA Camp Pine Crest, Torrance, Ontario (Transportation to camp is available at the beginning and end of the summer)




Work Hours: Must be available to work 6 days a week between Monday - Sunday

YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. After taking part in our programs, children and youth return home more confident, independent, and with new friendships. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.



Wellness Staff at Pine Crest supports the mental and physical health of the camp community by coordinating health and wellness practices and responding to medical needs. Daily responsibilities include conducting health and wellness checks, first aid assessments, medication administration, and maintaining first aid supplies to ensure the well-being of campers and staff. The role collaborates with Out-Tripping Directors to address health concerns in the field, contributing to informed decision-making regarding treatment and care. Wellness Staff listens, problem-solves, and works closely with the team to promote a culture of wellness and safety throughout camp. The position provides leadership and models healthy behaviors for all staff, including sun safety, nutrition, adequate sleep, and regular physical activity.


In this role, you will:




Support campers and staff to have a positive experience at camp by conducting regular check-ins with campers, camper groups, and counsellors Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed and maintained, and share responsibility with the staff team to keep all areas clean, organized, and safe for campers, staff, and volunteers Work with the Wellness Coordinator and team to manage inventory of all medical supplies, laundry, restocking, and organization of camper and stock medications Respond to and address first aid situations promptly and with care, communicating with the Camp Director, external health care staff, hospital personnel, and parents as necessary Dispense camper medication according to the directions provided on camper health forms Support the camp out-tripping program by conducting pre- and post-trip checks and assisting counsellors with packing and inventorying first aid kits Build and maintain positive relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners Attend all staff trainings and meetings, arriving on time and actively participating to contribute to the development of all staff members Act as a positive role model for all participants and fellow staff by embodying the values of the YMCA, Pine Crest's guiding principles, YMCA policies and procedures, and Ontario Camps Association guidelines Perform other duties as assigned

You bring:




Standard First Aid and CPR-C required by your start date and valid for the duration of the contract Currently enrolled in post-secondary education such as Nursing, Child and Youth Studies, or Social Work considered an asset Mental Health First Aid and Wilderness First Aid considered an asset Previous experience working with children Valid driver's license considered an asset Ability to work effectively with others and independently to achieve optimal collective results Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to both inexperienced and seasoned staff Ability to deliver feedback in a timely, professional, and constructive manner Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
