The ideal candidate will possess lived experience with Indigenous cultural practices, knowledge, and teachings, leveraging these to foster holistic wellness. This position supports the implementation of wellness strategies, provides direct mentorship, and collaborates with the Wellness team to create programs that reflect Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing.
Operating as a key contributor to the Wellness team, the Specialist will work closely with team members and leadership to enhance wellness initiatives, build relationships with community mental health resources, and cultivate connections with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to guide wellness programming. This role also involves evaluating program success and ensuring continuous improvement to meet team member needs effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Cultural and Mental Wellness Expertise
Co-develop and deliver wellness strategies and initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
Provide team members with one-on-one support, mentorship, and resources to enhance their wellness.
Build and maintain relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community mental health supports to enrich program offerings.
Ensure confidentiality in all interactions, while maintaining a duty to report where necessary.
Program Implementation and Improvement
Execute wellness programs rooted in Indigenous cultural practices and trauma-informed approaches.
Collaborate with the Wellness Lead to refine strategies based on feedback and observed outcomes.
Identify opportunities to enhance existing programs, driving quality improvements in services offered.
Communication and Team Engagement
Act as a trusted resource for team members, offering guidance and empathetic support.
Facilitate effective internal communications to ensure team members are engaged with wellness programs and initiatives.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Communications, Claims Helper, and Delivery teams.
Operational Excellence
Maintain a comprehensive database of mental health and wellness resources in collaboration with the Wellness Resource Coordinator.
Monitor and evaluate the success of wellness programs, providing data and insights to leadership.
Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma or degree in a related field (e.g., social work, counseling, Indigenous studies, health promotion, etc.).
5+ years of experience in a helping or human services role, particularly within Indigenous communities or organizations.
Lived experience as a First Nations person with a deep understanding of cultural practices, teachings, and their application to wellness.
Expertise in trauma-informed practices, cultural safety, and Indigenous holistic wellness approaches.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and provide emotional support.
Experience designing and implementing strategic wellness programs rooted in Indigenous perspectives.
Familiarity with reconciliation principles and a commitment to cultural humility.
Ability to lead group discussions, workshops, or wellness training sessions.
High emotional intelligence, with strengths in self-awareness and resiliency.
Salary Range
$60,000 to $70,000 annually
