What We Do
YESS is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities. Based in Edmonton, our Youth Support Centre provides immediate and low-barrier 24/7 sleep support and individualized wrap-around supports for young people aged 15 - 24.
What You Will Do
The Wellness Practitioner supports the mental health and overall well-being of YESS staff by providing accessible, non-clinical wellness supports to individuals, teams, and departments. Through flexible meeting options (in person, virtual, and telephone), the role promotes self-awareness, resilience, and sustainable wellness in the workplace.
Reports to: Chief Programs Officer
Responsibilities:
Provide trauma-informed wellness orientation and education for staff
Facilitate guided reflection sessions to help staff explore boundaries, power dynamics, and stress responses and how these may impact their work
Offer structured, short-term, goal-focused wellness support, including motivational, solution-focused conversations centered on a single goal
Support staff in clarifying personal and professional goals and identifying practical steps toward success
Provide career development and career-reflection support within a wellness and strengths-based framework
Deliver mental health and wellness training focused on healthy coping strategies for work-related stress and secondary trauma
Provide education on trauma-informed and psychologically safe workplace practices
Support People & Culture and other departments in developing and implementing workplace training materials
Assist staff in identifying appropriate wellness resources, including benefits, EAP, community supports, or personal therapy
Offer staff frameworks and tools to support work they may choose to pursue with their personal therapist or in their personal lives
Collaborate with People & Culture and leadership on wellness initiatives and staff support strategies
Share information internally only to the extent required to address safety, legal, or organizational obligations.
Use wellness information only in aggregated, de-identified form for reporting, trend analysis, and program improvement.
What You Bring
A diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology or a related field.
Single session counselling, group facilitation, youth development, mental health issues, and crisis intervention skill,
Up to date registration with the CYCAA or eligibility to register with the CYCAA
Minimum of 2 years directly related experience in: + Crisis management, de-escalation and debrief processing
+ Safety planning and risk assessment
+ Motivational Interviewing
+ Trauma Informed Care
+ Working within a non-profit multi-disciplinary team
+ Utilizing a single session model for 1:1 sessions
+ Facilitating group activities Previous experience working with My Compass is considered an asset

Prerequisites
Training in first aid
Training in non-violent crisis intervention
Training in suicide intervention and harm reduction
ASIST Training Certified
Trauma - Informed Care Training
Clear Police clearance (CRIM) and a Child and Youth Intervention (CYIM) checks, both obtained within the last six months
Valid driver's license and driver's abstract
Proof of vehicle insurance (at least $1 million third party liability)
