About the role:




TheWellness Manageris a key leadership role dedicated to supporting the physical and overall well-being of campers and staff at Big Cove YMCA Camp. This role oversees all aspects of the camp's healthcare systems, including medication management, documentation, first aid response, proactive wellness practices, and general health support across camp.


The Wellness Manager works closely with the Counselling Team, Camp Leadership, and parents to ensure a safe, healthy, and supportive environment where every camper and staff member can thrive.

In this role, you will:




Camper & Staff Wellness Support

Oversee daily health and wellness needs of campers and staff. Administer first aid and respond to injuries, illness, or emergency situations. Coordinate additional medical care with clinics or hospitals as needed. Support camper mental health in collaboration with the Counselling Team and Leadership Team.

Medication & Documentation Management

Manage medical forms, care plans, and daily documentation in accordance with YMCA standards. Store and distribute medications safely and accurately. Maintain organized and confidential health records. Monitor medical budgets and ensure adequate supplies.

Health Systems & Supplies

Prepare and maintain first aid kits and medical supplies across all program areas. Ensure wellness spaces remain clean, stocked, and welcoming. Promote proactive wellness practices, hygiene, and injury prevention.

Training & Communication

Train staff in essential wellness protocols, first aid basics, hygiene standards, and prevention strategies. Communicate with parents about health updates, incidents, or ongoing concerns. Serve as an approachable, calm, and supportive presence for campers and staff.

Collaboration & Leadership

Serve as a member of the Leadership Team supporting camp operations and program delivery. Collaborate with counsellors and program directors to meet camper health needs. Maintain positive, supportive relationships and contribute to overall camp culture.

Camp Operations Support

Assist with facility cleaning and organization. Support kitchen duties such as dishes and meal cleanup. Participate in groundskeeping and general camp upkeep. Help with trail maintenance, campsite readiness, and overall safety.

Education and skills qualifications:



Minimum Requirements

Must be 21 years of age by June 20, 2025. Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C. Class 4 Driver's Licence. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure or emergency scenarios.

Recommended / Assets

National Lifeguard Certification (NLS). Wilderness First Aid or equivalent advanced training. Enrollment in or completion of a nursing program, or related healthcare experience. Previous camp, youth work, or community health experience.

Key Competencies

Strong communication and empathy. Excellent judgment and decision-making. Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to youth development. Ability to manage multiple priorities in an outdoor, fast-paced setting.
