Job Summary
We're seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Wellness Assistant to support the delivery of meaningful, therapeutic experiences for adults in our WellSpring Day Program. In this role, you will plan, support, and facilitate a variety of engaging activities--including arts, music, fitness, baking, gardening, games, outings, and social events--tailored to participants of all abilities, including individuals with cognitive impairments. Reporting to the Wellness Manager, you will help create a safe, inclusive, and uplifting environment while delivering both group and one-on-one programming. You'll work collaboratively with other Wellness team members, bringing creativity, energy, and empathy to every interaction.
This role also includes a strong emphasis on communicating with families and residents, providing information about available services, helping arrange supports, and ensuring smooth coordination of participant needs.
Qualifications and Requirements
Mandatory 3-year recent, related experience in facilitating and/or operating Day Programs for seniors. Preparing thriving and up-to-date programs.
Mandatory diploma or degree in Therapeutic Recreation.
Experience working with individuals with cognitive impairments, disabilities, or other special needs.
Current First Aid/CPR Certificate & Food Safe
Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Training
Preferred Carefit Certificate or Third Age Fitness Certificate, or related fitness training.
Key Responsibilities:

Plan and lead engaging activities that reflect the five domains of Recreational Therapy (physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual).
Adapt programs to meet individual needs and ensure full participation.
Monitor client well-being, observe and report changes to the Wellness Manager and Team Lead Nurse.
Maintain accurate daily records, including attendance and participation notes.
Communicate clearly with clients, families, and team members to ensure the success of the program.
Keep the environment clean, safe, and organized; report any faulty or unsafe equipment.
Participate in meetings, training, and ongoing professional development.
Champion the program by spreading the word, building excitement, and connecting with residents and families to inspire participation and boost enrollment.
Communicate with residents, their families, and other staff when services are requested while arranging group attendance for the WellSpring program
Work within a designated budget and perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Physical ability to assist with mobility (wheelchair portering), personal care, and lifting small items.
Experience with Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset.
Comfortable using program databases and operating recreation-related equipment.
Demonstrates creativity, initiative, and a desire to share knowledge and contribute to a positive community atmosphere.
Ability to deal with problem-solving situations and exercise sound judgment.
Responsibilities to Health and Safety:
Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and residents.
Promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations to the immediate supervisor. Does not operate or use faulty equipment.
Promptly reports personal injury to the Supervisor and seek first aid as needed.
Participate in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills and know the facility's fire and disaster plan.
Keeps all recreation areas, including storage areas, accessible and free from hazards always.
Monitors areas, residents' assistive devices, i.e. walker, w/c, for health and safety.

Hourly rate: $27.91 - $29.60
This is a Temporary Part-time position (January - June 2026)
